It's possible to have a great looking game with lower requirements, LotRO is a good example.

I think it's a good idea to not have massive requirements so you don't lose half your potential player base before the game is even realased (Age of Conan).

IMO ... weather optimized or not, this game HAS to look Crysis-ish looking at all those years it's been in development, were in 2010, can't we have a really good /looking/ MMO?

and don't gimme that aion bs :/

Hmmm, I'm guessing by the 1280x720 locked-in window the game will probably run at 720p on PS3 then...

If this is a serious question, then I'll answer it.

    All PS3s are compatible.

The only problem you might have on a 40 is space (if u have existing games/dlc on it), but if thats the case u can always upgrade the HD with any ol HD

My computer should run it, but I will need to upgrade my video card. I just hope that my computer can run it at a decent frame rate, and that it looks ok. I can deal with OK for a year or two, then further down the road really upgrade the computer to kick this games ass.

Lol ... ok just yeah. I am assuming this and all the other ps3 comments are jokes.

Put it simply, the current minimum requirements are a guesstimate of what they are going to have for their "recommended" requirements. This is the system they believe that will be able to play with their current non-optimized default graphics settings. This is not going to showcase how beautiful the game can be, but will show you extreme beauty none-the-less. Locking it down to a relatively small screen res is going to be because they want to fit it to the PS3's default HD res more than likely at 720p.

One thing to note about people saying things about how beautiful it will look, I will point out to you that FF13 is the first game released with the Crystal Tools graphics engine. It looks gorgeous on the ps3. Yes there will be more things on screen and more ways to bog down the engine in a full blown MMO, but the game is going to look gorgeous, even on middle of the road settings.

The biggest thing I can suggest in terms of getting ready is to really look at your system. If you are running between 2 and 6gb of system memory, think about upgrading that. The current minimum is low even to run 7/Vista efficiently let alone run a high powered game. Remember these are the min requirements for running the game and ONLY the game. In the day and age of multitasking, all of us will be running multiple applications while playing. Anything from 1 (or more) IM utilities, Firefox, Ventrilo, iTunes, media player, hulu, etc., that 2gb of ram will be far less efficient, if not simply incapable of keeping up with everything. The more you have the better off you are going to be. Hell, right now I only have AIM, Itunes, Ven, MSN, and a Torrent running and im at 3gb of usage.

Didnt they mention something about the Alpha/Beta reqs where going to be higher than whats needed for the final build?

That means any old peice of junk can run this game.

Yes. The did point out that the alpha specs were going to be higher. So expect something that fits a wider range of computers closer to retail. The goal is to get as many subscribers at they can get. ^_^

Im just hoping those arent the high end specs, would be nice to push the graphics even further than whats been shown.

Why would they be the high-end? Its the requirements. That means its what they estimate to be the lowest required to run the game.

Anyone think my GeForce 8700M GT 256MB will fail me, in my laptop that otherwise has 4 GB memory, Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz? Total available graphics memory says 1535 MB, not sure how that comes into play compared to the 256MB VRAM.

From what I'm being told, FF14 is being developed moreso with PC in mind, than the PS3, as far as where they're going with the game from a graphical standpoint. Whereas what they did with FF11 was put the baseline at the PS2, and simply port-job everything over to the PC/360 (I know the 360 version allowed higher resolutions, but that wasn't something the engine couldn't already do). It will be the reverse with FF14, they're designing it for PC and then scaling it down to the PS3. This is why the game will look fabulous on PC, assuming you've got a relatively decent machine, versus the PS3 version which will be more of a bare minimum effort of running the game

    Hard Disk Space :

These days a lot of games on Windows are being required to follow rules that include: "After installing the game, never modify any files in the installation folder. Instead, use 'User\My Documents' or 'C:\Documents and Settings' (or equivalent, depends on the OS) folder for new content instead." It has to do with Vista/7's default user properties, and basically means that games have to assume that wherever they're installed is a read-only directory (as well as the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE).

I may be wrong, and correct me if I am, but aren't Alphas usually run at higher specs anyway? So for all we know, the final release could be lower than what we're seeing here. Then again.. as I mentioned, I could be completely wrong.
