"Minority" is the new fad in academic circles. Minorities have a lot more scholarships and other opportunities available to them partially because colleges are trying so hard to recruit them right now and partially because there are many organizations out there pushing to increase minority presence in college. Almost everything I've ever applied for during college was either "minority only", "black only", or "minorities will be given special consideration". And I don't mean only scholarships, I also mean REUs, grants, graduate assistantships, and other programs/aid/money I've applied for.

You are fucked and not getting an ounce of aid beyond a hefty student loan. This is because everyone knows the Founding Fathers (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc) were all wealthy, white men so by some twisted logic, people like me must also be wealthy and able to afford college out of my own pocket. Everyone also knows that every white man in America is indebted to the black man for something white men did to the black man before most nationalities, mine included, even immigrated here between 1875ish-1910ish, so if I DO manage to scrap together the funds for a semester or two, when I go, I must accept that the black fraternities/sororities and black student orginizations are permitted while I may not start a white student orginization. That is because I am evil and I am rich and I do not need such things. I got a fucking 1390 on the old 1600 SAT and I didn't get jack shit for a scholarship but theres fucking people with 900s and 2.8 High School GPAs getting free rides because they are 1/16 Indian or 1/2 black and they were one of like 3 people to write in for 1 of the 1000's of minority scholarships.

Seriously, its messed up beyond all reason. But if you're a foriegner, I'm sure you can find financial allowances like a scholarship or grant easily. University prices range between $8,000-$30,000. Don't go to a community college.

OP: look into partnerships that Swedish universities may have with American ones. Basically, some schools with international partnerships will exchange students, with each student being responsible for their home-country tuition. This could save you a load of money, as you'd just be paying (or more likely, not paying) your Swedish univ. tuition.

Also, look into scholarships and be aware that a US student visa does allow you to work on a part time basis, so you can mitigate some costs that way. And unless you get loads of scholarship, I suggest living off-campus. Dormitory rates are a huge ripoff (well over $500 a month for splitting a studio with someone, no kitchen and may have to use community bathroom/shower facilities), as are the on-campus meal plans.

State universities are the cheapest, but even then for out-of-state/international students, tuition is pretty high on the global scale.

The plus side with CSN is that if you decide to stay in america -after- you've finished your education, you can with great ease, "skip" paying back to them, as they don't waste a lot of money finding you.

There are some swedish scholorships that you can apply for, but then you will have to give results and/or write a formal report of your stay and what you've accomplished during your time. It's also a lot easier to get scholorships if you've started an education in Sweden and is just looking for a couple of exchange years abroads and/or master's studies. In that case, most universities has a lot of partner projects abroad.

Its not hard to get into a Harvard or some shit - all them top schools, state or not, get more endowments than the cost of tuition for their entire student population. Harvard gets BILLIONS WITH A B dollars a year in alumni and others donating. Try applying to a university no one beyond 100 miles has heard of and getting a full ride that you deserve. My family is near their financial limit and my sister is screwed when she graduates cause she wants to go for a unique psychology degree that the nearest university that offers it is several hundred miles away and a $30k private one. I got a fucking 3.8 / 1390 and shes got a 4.1 so far (taking her SATs this spring). I'm fucking polish, my family wasn't here when Americans abused the Indians, when Americans fought Mexico for Texas, or when black people were enslvaed, and yet I'm somehow supposedly able to shit out tuition along with the remains of my filet mingon dinner?

all i'm hearing is a bunch of white victim bullshit because you're being real particular about a school. apply to a black college down south and you'd probably be a shoo-in for a full ride; AA goes both ways son. or, conversely, go somewhere in your state that hands out full rides for top 5% HS grads/those with good test scores. Your sister in particular should have no problem with that GPA.

Most people don't know it, but if their parents had stopped declaring them on their income tax as a dependent, a full year before they graduated from high school, they could have gotten an extremely low EFC, which would have saved them a ton of money in the long run.

Hehe, dodging the CSN would be nice, but I don't think it'd be worth the effort. Never know if I'd be moving back to sweden, and it's not really that much money in the long run.

I'll probably be an exchange student, or atleast finish my work-experience related studies abroad, though I'm not sure just where yet. When it comes to examinas and tests, I'm quite confident I can best whatever they toss at me.

There's nothing wrong with community college if you're going for a liberal arts degree. Who really cares about bachelors degrees anymore in the social sciences anyway? Best to get that psychology or history bachelors as cheaply as possible and transfer what you can from community college. It's all about your Masters or PhD these days in the liberal arts. However, in my opinion, if you want a BS, best to get into a good four year school, it's a whole different ball game there.

• Have competitive GPA (3.5~)
• Be a minority.
