and apparently gmail steals and maintains memory overtime(even with the Memory Leakage addon) to the point where if I leave windows open for hours, firefox has now consumed over 1GB of memory.
As far as I know this hasn't been a widely reported issue in years. It's more likely that you have some kind of gmail add-in or plugin that is hogging memory.

No IE rider, but Firefox sure isn't living up to y'alls hype either.
No one said Firefox was perfect. But it is light years ahead of IE.

I know a web developer (ha) who couldn't check out guildwork.com the other day because he was still using IE.

    IE7....

it could have been 6... I stopped talking to him when he told me it wasn't 8 or 9....

My point is people don't bother upgrading unless it's forced on them, so sadly it'll be a while before we can completely ignore IE6/7/8 :/

But at least it's a step in the right direction.

Firefox is definitely known for exorbitant memory usage for many users, but since Chrome uses separate processes for each tab, it too will use large amounts of memory with many tabs open and that's really an issue of whether or not you have the memory to spare or not. For modern systems I believe it's a non-issue, and I can't speak for what's best for older systems, but I'm more concerned with functionality over performance and Firefox gives that to me in spades.

Should probably be moved to the tech section too so you don't look like you're selectively shuffling my thread off into a dark corner.

Company I'm working for just recently (a month ago) finally dropped support for IE6. At the time, still 5~10% of their customer base was using it. Most people are still resistant to upgrading even when it's for the better, and shoved down their throats. Fucking horrible.

The hospital I work for still has IE6 on their serviced machines. They said they'll stick with IE6 for as long as microsoft supports XP, which will be some time yet. According to our google stats for our websites, at least 20% of ours users use IE6 still, which means even when we get something working right in Firefox, we have to develop special sections for IE6 users which itself takes as long or longer as it did for developing the regular site.

They're finally upgrading from IE6 at my work tomorrow...to IE7. I can't wait for all the crappily designed intranet websites to break

That's funny I just reformatted one month ago. No reason they couldn't have tied the fix to future installs. But I guess being minimally critical (while using that very browser still) is against the forum rules?

idgaff Who else reported it, I have the problem. And no, I don't have any gmail addons, otherwise I'd have specified when I posted about it....a month ago.

Why make a counterpoint to something no one said, including me?

Football's over, it's no coincidence I stopped browsing those threads. You and Tyche can go about your life and kindly spare me with your snotty ass moodswings, especially a harmless comment over a browser. Jesus, you'd think I insulted your mother.

Wow, jesus, who put your panties in a bunch?

First of all, I didn't insult you in any way, I even went through the trouble of looking up the fix to a problem you were having. And then I gave my opinion about the browser, just like you did.

I guess you have me confused with someone else, because I rarely post in the football threads, and when I do it's usually to bitch about the Giants. I'm a baseball guy, so come on over to the MLB thread and try insulting the Yankees if you want to see me moody. If what I posted above is enough to set you off, I have no idea how you browse BG at all.
