Official Complain about Vanille's VA Thread

The whole overly suggestive moaning/squeaking is what I dislike most about anything Japanese. It makes me extremely uncomfortable around others.

She sounds like a porn star in battle when throwing all those spells out. Seriously, I feel embarrassed if someone is walking through the room listening to her moaning and writhing in escastsy.

She and Fang have that accent thing going, presumably because of the gran pulse "nationality?", but she sounded very good when she had a gun pointed at her head (seriously, that was my favorite CS with her in it - her voice sounded genuine).

Edit: Yeah, the over saturation of "ah!"s and staggered breathing in Japanese culture is seriously overdone, overdrawn, and annoying. You can convey shock and other emotions without constantly panting, gasping, breathing, or jutting, but the Japanese just love having it before and after every syllable of every word.

I mean, we've been ragging on it for years. Remember the original Speed Racer? "OOOOOHHHH!!!!" After every turn of the car, every plot point, and every word?

Cut that shit out. Its even more pronounced when softer music was playing, and it just got annoying. There were times in the early part of the game where I was flat-out embarrassed playing in front of my brother, and he's a huge FF fan.

If Kain were voice-aced, he wouldn't be pulling that shit, goddammit.

She was alright at first, but I really can't stand her anymore. I'd have paid extra if the CE could have had the option to change the vocal track.

The mark of a terrible voice actor is conveying something other than your intent. I'd blame the director but I'm pretty sure it's mostly the voice actress's fault seeing as all the other characters are voiced extremely uniformly and without excessive grunting/nonsense noises (another mark of bad voice acting). I don't care if she was trying to pretend she was from Cocoon or not (though I don't think this was even intended), her lack of choice between an accent is annoying to everyone I know and the fact that it's so noticeable and everyone feels that way means something is wrong with the performance. The voices of the other characters feel very natural to me, they feel like they fit, realistic enough to seem like they could be actual people somewhere. I don't get that vibe from Vanille, she feels very acted and very overdone. I know there are some people who won't agree, everyone has their own opinion, but I'm glad this thread is here so I can complain about the one voice that bothers me in this game. XD

I still think SE did it the best when they cast Auron. His voice was perfect for his character, and after hearing his flashback voice, I wished I could have actually played out that part of the game.

Snow is really good in this game, and his theme is really rockin'; everyone sounds good, really. I loved Sazh when he was screaming at Vanille - he sounded so authentic. I haven't gotten to Gran Pulse yet, so I'll be listening in closely to hear of Vanille's voice changes when she gets there.

Hah, I know exactly what point in the game you're referring to, sadly.

Nah, I had the worst experience with that: right when its Hope and Vanilee when they first land inside the Fal'ce. They have the goofiest physical attacks in the game, and the two did nothing but a lot of breathing and huffing and awkward teen voice acting through that part.... god it was painful having people around.

"FINAL FANTASY XIII IS A GOOD GAME! REALLY!" That kept going in my head through clenched teeth.

When she was making those orgasm noises during a cut scene near the beginning, I found myself thinking, "Oh hell incoming shit fest from wife any minute". Luckily enough she didn't walk in during the noises, she just commented on how Vanille runs like a tramp.

I still haven't heard the end of the God of War two-chicks mini game.
