I think they are experimenting with this format since the original Who was often 4 part episodes at 30 min each.

As Clara Oswald, Jenna Coleman has been the longest running companion to the Doctor since Doctor Who was rebooted in 2005, sharing screen time with the eleventh (Matt Smith) and twelfth (Peter Capaldi) Doctors. Reports are circulating that she has filmed her final scenes for the long-running BBC series and will exit before the Christmas special. This sudden departure comes after Coleman was cast as Queen Victoria in a lush 8-part drama series for the U.K.’s ITV (from the same producers as Poldark). Coleman will play the Victoria when she first becomes queen as an 18-year-old in 1837. Series creator Daisy Goodwin said to The Mirror that Victoria’s diaries gave “an astonishingly vivid picture of her transformation from a rebellious teenager.” Series nine of Doctor Who premieres this Saturday on BBC America.

I kind of was hoping there'd be The Impossible Girl series where they kind of edit her into really old episodes of Dr. Who (treat her footage so her drop in looks like it'd always been there) and show how she had been working behind the scenes some how to help the Dr.

Definitely is not going to happen now.

They did that in one episode, though.

What I wish they'd do someday is film a briefs scene of the doctor and a companion stepping out of the TARDIS, then immediately turning around and going back in that they could insert into the background of a later episode.

I never did watch that episode, read what ya'll wrote about it and thought fuck that shit but yeah glad she's going, echoing that she had potential but she just seemed forced in last season.
If she didn't have GoT then i'd say Maisie for the next companion but having a bloke be the main companion for a season or 2 could do the show well.

Honestly, she probably could do both Doctor Who and Game of Thrones. GoT films in the fall, with Doctor Who in the spring. Or maybe she'll be killed off in GoT

My friend got me into watching the new DW but expressed disdain for everything not written by RTD. For whatever reasons when RTD was the head guy, I enjoyed a lot of Moffat's episodes. But once Moffat took over, not so much.

I will watch this new season but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'm super late to the Doctor Who train, only really just now being introduced recently when Series 2 started airing on Disney XD with David Tennant and absolutely loved it and have kept track and watched ahead since, then I found out that I had BBC America and that Doctor Who aired there too.. so it's been great.

They had this big marathon going on building up to Saturday's premiere so that was hype and I also got introduced to the newest Doctor last night. He's not bad, but gonna take some to grow on me I think. I loved Tennant and Matt Smith so much, and also.. Amy Pond + Rory for best companions.

Just to make sure also from other Who fans.. did Martha fall flat for you guys? or did you like her? She was probably my least favorite to be honest :/ Thoughts?

I liked the Clara character as a companion, but hated the writing for most of the episodes she was in. She was a companion that would follow the Doctor's instructions to some degree, which was a refreshing change of pace. It's just too bad that her time as a companion was largely wasted because Moffat sucks at the helm.
