well, at least shes gone now. It's sad cause she was hot, but it's good cause she was annoying.
All in all she was a good companion, like before he would just kill everything without some stern nudges.

Not sure why they didn't stick her in the stasis chamber thing that was right there...sure, she probably still would've died the moment they opened it up, but she could have been left "alive" indefinitely.
Good episode. I hope the next one isn't just the doctor running around a bunch of corridors in a maze-island.
Oh god, I thought it was the other way around. Some of the writing in Tennant's era was the cheesiest bullshit ever. Adipose, Pig men slaves for the daleks, the whole "I've been shot by a dalek and am regenerating but I'm just gonna decide not to" (which was technically redacted into "regenerated into himself" but that clearly wasn't how the writers were originally taking it)...
I liked Tennant well enough but can't stand most of his episodes specifically due to the writing.
This may have something to do with the fact that I caught up to the show only on Series 6, but I also found Tennant's run mediocre and Matt Smith was the one that symbolized the Doctor for me more than anyone. Last season I had an extremely hard time getting used to Capaldi, but I'm getting used to it now.
As for this episode, am I the only one that still thinks it's yet another cry wolf by Moffat? I mean, killing her off like that... with no one but the Doctor actually witnessing it happen, is it at all possible that those worms that filter reality filtered what the Doctor actually say because, like Ashildr said, they make you see what you expect to see?
Either that, or it was a very terrible sendoff for Clara, who granted didn't leave as strong of an emotional connection in my eyes than Amy and Rory, but was a pretty damn good character for a companion.
Also, given the fact that apparently there's a scene in episode 12 of Clara in the same diner in Utah that the Doctor gathered his younger self along with Amy/Rory/River prior to his death in Lake Silencio, maybe there's more to it than they showed.
They really missed their chance to have a good sendoff for Clara during Smith's run. If she had jumped into his timestream or whatever at his grave and was never seen again, that would've been much better and much more impactful than this scene.
Tbh I suspect she's hung around this long because Moffat's got a crush on Jenna Coleman and he's projecting it onto the Doctor.
I still dunno if this is the way she'll go out. We've seen crazier things, but seeing as this is just part 1 of the whole finale of this Series..man.
Honestly it's the perfect exit for Clara. At the tail end of last season and all of season 9 she's been acting more line the Doctor. She believes herself to be as clever as him and that overconfidence was her downfall.
As far as the next episode is concerned
Spoiler: show
I kind of thought with The Judoon policemen you sort of glimpsed for a second that it was all a plot by The Shadow Proclamation (as we saw them earlier in the season) and they'd arrest The Doctor for giving zero fucks about the laws of time but Veil it is I guess. Be interesting to see if Missy shows up again or if they're saving her for a later episode/series.
Couldn't they just give Clara a new name and bring her back whenever they want via the Impossible Girl plotline?
In fact, aren't they pretty much obligated to do so any time the doctor is in trouble? What evern happened to that plotline, anyway?
Well... the fact that the Time Lords intervened and gave the Doctor new regenerations, didn't they alter that future in which the Doctor's grave is in Trenzalore?
It's all very confusing lol but the way I see it, because they changed that future, no Claras exist in 12th's timeline and onwards because when she jumped into the stream, it was the 11th's stream, who ended up dying in Trenzalore and never received help from the Time Lords in "Time of the Doctor".
Sorry I'm late to this party, had to wait until last night to watch s09e10 with my girlfriend (she's the one who got me hooked).
First, killing Clara was the only way to redeem her character, which (as basically all of you have mentioned) had overstayed her welcome and become total, irredeemable shit. Just utter, awful, ... shit.
Second, Clara is "dead", but there's just no way she's actually gone. The character is too bankable. Jenna Coleman will use the hiatus Moffat's granted her to complete her 8-episode obligation as the titular Victoria and then probably turn her attention back to Doctor Who. There are thousands of ways they can write her back into this mess. Last season ended with her and the Doctor visiting the afterlife/inner-earth megacity hell place with the Mistress and her Cybermen army; who's to say she's not just hanging out down there? I'm totally unconvinced and saddened that she's not gone forever.
Hopefully the season concludes well. Looking forward to seeing River again.
Speaking of which, information on the Christmas Episode was released by the BBC

Looks like River won't know that she is dealing with the Doctor initially. This episode NEEDS to end with the 12th Doctor taking River to the Singing Towers of Darillium giving her the upgraded sonic screwdriver.
As long as that gets rid of the fucking sunglasses.
I think the wording indicates how they're gonna bring her back. They said whoever it was they made a deal with "wanted a soul". So now they have Clara's soul. Somewhere. So the Doctor goes and gets it.
Are they really going to bring resurrection in to this for regular characters? Seems like that's crossing a line they shouldn't be. Granted, the whole situation of where River was left after her "first" episode seems like it would tie into a solution that could bring Clara back as well.
I don't hate Clara, I think she got written rather poorly once Capaldi came in, but she's...too good. She's certainly been with the Doctor too long and is way too skilled, so she needs to either stay dead, or retire once she gets a rez.
I'm happy with Clara staying dead, not because I particularly disliked her I just think it's time for a fresh companion. It's a science-fiction show, so I guess they can make or break whatever rules they want regardless. I thought the character got better closure than Amy & Rory anyway. The only way I'd accept it is if she came back temporarily OR if she came back properly, then was like 'cya later' in a similar way like how Martha left.
Sorry, lads. I got a serious Doctor Who spoiler recently from a close friend.
