That would be nifty as hell, but some BS about River giving up all her regenerations to keep Matt Smith from dying happened. Not that that should really stop them, I suppose.

"died". The Doctor saved her data into his sonic. It was said in the last episode that a "copy" of a Time Lord is saved in their matrix so they can regenerate. Meaning she's able to be rezzed, in theory.

That is exactly what happened. She isn't saved anywhere but the Library

Oh, right, good call. But point stands, she's "copied" into the computer, so theoretically can be extracted from there. And now that Gallifrey is back the Doctor might have access to the technology to make that happen.

I mean, the Doctor finished the library episode feeling "triumphant". If he had just watched a woman who knew his name die for good, that would not have been a win by any means.

She was ghost imprinted or w/e onto the sonic, like how the people were through the library episode. She didn't full deteriorate but was close. He transferred whatever was left on the sonic into the library. Whatever of River was left was stored into the Library. Thats why during the Doctor's graveyard ep she was shown wearing the white clothing that people inside the Library wear. Her, soul, as of that was still there.

I think getting her soul into anything organic shouldn't really be possible as it wouldn't be that river. Even if you manage to mind wipe a time lord, throw River's mind into it and force a regen, it would be a new person. Might be a robot with her mind it. Who knows with Doctor who

Wasn't Moffat the writer for the library episode? I'm sure it was written the way it was for a reason. There's got to be something that can be done with River post-Library (instead of just wonky time travel mechanics) with how they ended it. I haven't heard any news about a new companion, and the Doctor doesn't travel alone for long. I wonder if after the Christmas episode the Doctor will find a way to restore River to a body.

In River's timeline, this episode happens sometime after The Angels Take Manhattan. It is, as most people speculate, the episode where the Doctor takes River to the Singing Towers of Darillium which is right before the Library. I think that in itself is pretty powerful because we know what lies in store for her, and the Doctor has already seen her "death".

Here's her quote from the episode "Forest of the Library":

The last time I saw you, the real you, the future you, I mean, you turned up on my doorstep, with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Darillium to see the Singing Towers. What a night that was. The Towers sang, and you cried. ... You wouldn't tell me why, but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the Library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue.

I think that after the Adventure from the Christmas Episode, the Doctor will take off and come back some time later at the end of the episode, and we will see him taking her to the Singing Towers.

I was thinking about River recently, and realized why I'm sad about her. A character who knows the doctor, possibly travelled with him before, but is new to him is a great concept for a character. But, River became almost too much more over just that really cool idea. The doctor is a time traveller, so this should happen more often than it has. But, thanks to River, they really can't do the same thing in an interesting way without seeming to repeat themselves too much.

I fully expect Moffat to retcon "Last Night" to the point where they were on their way to the singing towers and they didn't make it because some crisis happened on the way and he promised to take her another time.

This season was pretty solid other than the pointless fill in sleep no more episode, but the finale was actually worse than last season. The episode from the beginning seemed like it might be really good, and I hate Gallifrey so I was hopeful that he would resolve issues there then get the fuck out, so that was good when he basically made himself a wanted man again rather than being a hero. The problem of course as usual was that Clara is a shitty fucking companion, and the worst thing about the 12th doctor is that he's been stuck with her the whole time. Despite that Capaldi is still awesome and shaping up to be my favorite by far. I feel like throughout season 8 and 9, there was tons of interesting directions they could have gone, but they always went down the Clara path. This show more than anything needs a good companion again.

The level of fuckheadedness that the Doctor reaches because of Clara cheapens every tough decision he has ever had to make in the history of the show. It isn't the first time a companion died, he didn't break any rules then.
