There's been a variety of sources saying Capaldi may be out soon, that he's been saying he's finding it to be too much work etc. Funny thing (for me) is I'm fine with Capaldi, I like him. The new companion's jokes in that first preview were among the flattest I've heard in the series...and I guess for now they get a pass on bringing a super hero in since it's the xmas special (also that's Steve from the US Shameless).

If the writing wasn't garbage, Capaldi would probably be the best doctor if you give him the amount of intense scenes that 10 and 11 got.

I don't know about best, but yeah, Capaldia is clearly a better performer than the writing allows him to be.

I just keep thinking about that intense scene when the Master fucked with him with Gallifrey's location. If we had more of those he would be awesome. Instead, we keep getting over the top cheesy shit, which is a huge waste for a person like Capaldi

Tennant had many great episodes though. He's awesome but for a bit, he did have good writers and he had Donna. Capaldi has only had Clara, spoiled, whiny, awful Clara, and what? maybe 2 good episodes?(Only one that comes to mind right now was that one where he was inside his Will dealy and had to punch that diamond wall over a billion billion years)

Personally, I think 9 had the best writing out of everything since it was brought back. And Moffet just paved the way for shit writing when he took over.

Bit of a necro bump, but the Christmas episode aired. I thought it was fun.

Bad guys were pretty meh though, especially since it felt like a storyline that has happened at least once before. The superhero stuff was not what I was expecting in Doctor Who, was pretty entertaining. And, also, I'm not really sure why this was a Christmas episode, only like the first few minutes of the episode took place at Christmas. >.>

Capaldi's final episode will be the 2017 Christmas episode. Season premiere slated for April.

Honestly I was hoping he'd stay on for at least one season under Chibnall, but I am really sad to see him go. I have a feeling that the Beebs is going to have the show cast young again to try to find another Tennant to boost the shows popularity, but I guess the upside is the show gets a fully clean slate if they only have Bill on for this season only. I had heard that Capaldi didn't like the rigorous shooting schedule that had him working on Doctor Who for 8 months out of the year.
