So basically, this is really just giving more shape to what showrunners were able to muster amid covid limitations, revealing specifically that they were truly unable to adhere to the established "full season for fall sweeps capped with a xmas/new year special" format (which seems to be slipping further and further away from xmas every year anyway).
The news is really that Season 13 will be abridged with a lower episode count, and there will be 2 specials in 2022 instead of the usual lone xmas/new year special. Wonder how they will be spaced. If they land in like January and June 2022 that would suck.
Yeah, I see that there are 8 more episodes this year at some point, and then those 2 specials, which seems fine. Still getting 3 seasons with her and shorter seasons aren't always a bad thing.
3 Seasons per Doctor seems to be the norm now. It's sad because I think both her and Capaldi were fantastic but suffered from bad writing.
Rumor: The Next Doctor Shortlist

I've been calling for Aoyade for years
Aoyade please!!!
I think we all want it to be Aoyade but let's be real...it will most likely be Olly because Chibnall is very LGBTQ friendly and would definitely do it to piss off certain people. If we are having another female I'll take Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Looks like Jodie and Chibnall are both exiting in 2022. We are getting 6 episodes this year and 3 specials next year before we get another full reset of Doctor, Companion, Show Runner. I really liked Jodie and although Chibnall got off to a rocky start, when it comes to New Era Doctor Who it usually takes 2 or more seasons to really find its stride under a new show runner.
Still want Aoyade... the man would be PERFECT for playing The Doctor.
They'd never do this now, but I'm convinced Sophia Di Martino would have been amazing in the role.
To save you a click, Russel T Davies is coming back as showrunner apparently.
Well this is going to be interesting because a lot of Nu-Who fans loved RTD's tenure and the storytelling.
Gonna be funny listening to all the outrage of having a black Doctor. Having RTD back though especially for the 60th is going to be nice. I had high hopes for Chibnal but he just couldn’t stick the landing.
Next year is the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, so with RTD helming the ship, I would absolutely love a 6 Doctor special (9th-14th), but the main holdout would be Chirstopher Eccleston who had beef with the production team and the show and probably would not reprise his role as the 9th Doctor. This is the reason why they went with the War Doctor instead of the 9th for the 50th anniversary. Also Capaldi I would say is 50/50 on returning.
