I personally wasn't a big fan. The episode could have been much better and I'm really not a fan of the way they do the hints for the big finale. Like last season with the cracks slapping you in the face and now this one will be that 1 eye'd chick. What happened to shit like Badwolf, the Bees, Mr Saxxon, ect. I feel the show thinks it's viewers are dumber.

If it's not written by Steven Moffat, you should know it's just going to be a wacky adventure episode.

I thought it was an alright episode, nothing special. It felt like they were rushing the plot a bit for the last half of it though as I wouldn't have minded to find out a little bit more about the pterodactyl-like aliens. Lily Cole beautifulness made up for it though, I'd rank it about the same as the space-whale episode in series 5, maybe a bit more than that.

Next episode looks potentially badass though looking forward to seeing Ood again plus other things.

I thought it was a pretty dumb episode. When the kid got zapped by the siren I was happy because he was such a horrible character.

My fiancee and my last girlfriend love Dr. Who so I sit through these episodes periodically. I'll be honest, I simply don't like most of what I see.

Yes, I know some of the charm is wrapped up in the cheesyness, but there something about cheesy and sci fi that I despise. Maybe I'm simply not imaginative enough (I hate horror/scare/halloween flixs for the same reason.) Sci fi / fantasy shows are among my favorite genres but only when the shows take decent lengths to make things feel believable

This season had me curious and excited to watch after the first episode. For the first time I sat and didn't feel bored with the show. The drama and story had me uniquely curious and I couldn't wait for the following episodes. Then E02 came around and started just as strong but seemed to rush my excitement to a close, but had a nice cliffhanger. I half dismissed it, thinking it could lead to better things, until I saw the "next episode" preview. Back to the /random/ subject matter of usual Dr. Whos.

E03 disappointed me. I felt like I was watching the usual Dr. Whos. Random plot, quickly established relationships and drama, corny CG "scifi/fantasy elements" and nothing compelling. I was really disappointed. I want to like this series, but what happened with the Awesomeness that started in the first episode?!

I understand this is very much about personal taste, but the series just seems like quick, cheap entertainment. It always surprises me how popular this is, and how many seasons there are. I have however, been told, that I would love the previous series since it was heavy on the drama as much as it was on all the other elements. I'm told it was very compelling to watch to the end, and gives more reason for excitement for this season.

I don't really think you'll find the other seasons much different. I've only been watching since the reboot with Ecclestein, but his season, the Tennant run, and Smith's season all follow the same basic pattern. First 1-2 eps set up the premise for the season, then unrelated stuff happens as they hop all over time/the universe, then they close up the main story arc in the last 2 episodes. They try to stretch it by incorporating the main "threat" into each episode along the way, but it usually just feels like a 30second-1min scene was thrown in to the episode and then it's back to the zany unrelated antics. I think the fact that it's quick, cheap entertainment is part of why it's so popular.

Still, I don't think that's enough to make it "bad" in my eyes. Entertainment is entertainment, and the Doctor is a really likeable character to most people so it works. The episodes are really diverse so it's a given that the series as a whole will be very hit-and-miss. There are some people who actually liked the episode about the Olympics (the one with the crazy artist girl) whereas I thought it was the dumbest episode by far. I thought this recent one was pretty underwhelming too, so I definitely know where you're coming from. I personally tend to like the episodes where they go to a different time on Earth rather than the ones on other planets, but I still wasn't feeling this one at all.

edit: Also bothers me when the Doctor goes overpowered mode about something. I like seeing him think his way out a problem, like when he loses the screwdriver or the TARDIS. Maybe that's blasphemy but whatever lol. I've seen a lot of potentially cool problems solved by a wave of the screwdriver and it bothers me when a given episode overuses that.

It's so funny because the Weeping angels from "Crash of the Byzantium" were different from the earlier Weeping Angels during the 10th Doctor's run. Back then, whenever the angel's touched you, they just sent you back in time and fed off your potential energy from being zapped into the past. I still think they are probably one of the creepiest beings in the series and they make a comeback this year.

I personally preferred the Weeping Angels of "Blink." The idea that they ate the potentiality of your life and left you elsewhere felt a little scarier and more powerful than the Angels simply absorbing radiation and killing you.

I agree, but the Doctor said instead of the life energy, they were feeding off the radiation. Then the crack of time, but realized they couldn't eat that and tried to run. The first weeping angels was prolly one of my favorite episodes, just by creep factor and overall story telling. I don't particularly care for the River Song plots because they happen at random points in both their lives, but maybe if it goes somewhere it could be good. The episode in the library turned out pretty good.

I'm not sure, but I believe this was the week it was supposed to be the Neil Gaiman's episode, which explains the goodness. It felt like... a modern take on the older Dr. Who, the "feel" of it was very classic to me.

I enjoyed that episode, Suranne Jones had great chemistry with the Doctor and personified the Tardis perfectly by being an eccentrically brilliant counterpart to Smith's Doctor

This darker Doctor is emerging again, I was surprised he killed that thing rather then try to re-home it as Tennant's Doctor would have.
