I don't know what they disinterest him, but I think Moffat recognizes their overexposure.

I think he knows they'll always be a fan favorite, but he understands that much of a surprise--much of excitement--is anticipation. Remove them from the stage for a bit, let them slip off people's radar... and BAM, bring them back with a bloodthirsty vengeance.

Also real quick as I read this on another forum and I had to see for myself:

If you go back to the episode "The Lodger" there is evidence that the Silence was on board the TARDIS and possibly the whole reason why Amy was "stuck" in the TARDIS while the Dr was locked out was due to the Silence's plan to abduct Amy while keeping the Doctor distracted. At around the 13:50 mark in the episode, Amy looks off into the distance with a puzzled look on her face and yells "HEY!" at the end of the conversation with the doctor. Then at the 21:46 mark she looks off camera while talking to the doctor and looks scared for a second and screams "HEY!" and then looks away and seems completely fine...

Yeah I heard all that stuff. I actually went back before s6 aired and checked some eps in s5 to see what possible Silence sightings there were. Some seemed legit, some not. Trying not to hype Saturday's episode finally gonna get some answers for shit but will prob be just as many questions asked knowing Moffat o_o

I haven't gone back through other episodes, but I did re-watch those scenes from "The Lodger," and I'm convinced.

The scene at ~13:50 ends and the viewer can easily construe her "HEY!" as directed toward The Doctor, but the look on her face suggests she spotted something past the control console. This scene could go either way. The one at ~21:46 really had my attention where, as The Doctor was explaining the effects of whatever that was, he reaction and "HEY!" was not all synchronized with his speech. She looked more like someone who was just surprised by an intruder. Just before her scene ended, she had the same look on her face that she did every time she'd looked away from The Silence.

Pretty wild.

It wouldn't be the first time something was planted in a previous episode. Hell, in the "Flesh and Stone" episode people were freaking out cause when the Doctor left Amy to deal with the angels, he had his jacket off, but he returned a few seconds later to say some comforting words to her, and he was wearing his jacket. We of course know now that it was a future version of himself from "The Big Bang" that went back in time to make sure Amy didn't forget him.

I think that's one aspect of Moffat's take on Doctor Who that I find so appealing, that he and the rest of the writers add very tiny details that could easily be overlooked if you're not actively paying attention to them that turn out to be crucial plot points later on. Sure Davies had introduced elements of a similar nature in his episodes (Bad Wolf, Torchwood, Harold Saxon, etc), but I feel that Moffat is more subtle with it, giving us red herrings here and there to lead us in one direction and then turn around and throw something completely different at us that we weren't expecting.

Was immediately obvious who River was as soon as you heard the babies name though, kind of ruined the big reveal even though I'm sure lots of people already had that theory already... and fucking lol at the DOCTOR WILL BE BACK at the end, September can't come soon enough.

Ok so...

- Having sex in the tardis while being exposed to the time vortex = half human half timelord child
- Amy was kidnapped sometime before the America Episode possibly right after the Christmas Special (Rory and Amy were on their honeymoon)
- River is the baby (The name made it obvious) and the little girl in the space suit
- The Silence and Madame Kavorian were trying to raise River as a weapon to kill the Dr.
- River mentioned that when she first meets the doctor as a young girl, he knew everything about her (which now makes sense)
- The little girl in the Space Suit was River so Amy almost killed River...

Now some interesting observations...

I was confused towards the end about the Crib and the writing on the crib. Why would it have River's name on it when the doctor pulled the crib out of his Tardis. Then I realized that when River was saying "I'm trying to tell you who I am" in reference tot he writing on the crib it hit me. She can read Galyfrean and the doctors real name is on the Tardis. That's how she knows his real name (Which she whispered into his hear in Silence in the Library). This is how he connected the dots that she is half time lord and can read the language and figured out that the baby is River. He got all excited afterwards because he now knows he is not the last of his kind and he was excited about their kiss because he kissed another time lord.

As I understood it, yes. Edit: Or not. In DW Confidential, the lady that plays River Song talked about the possibility that the Gallifreyan on the crib could have multiple names, or that the name had more of a meaning. It was pretty vague overall.

That was the crib that the Doctor had when he was a child, so it had his name on it. The crib that 'Melody' had was the high tech one that was sorta like a prison for the baby.

Even though it was kind of obvious compared to some of the other twists in Doctor who, I'm still excited to see what happens next with the storyline. It'd be interesting if it was still River Song who was in the astronaut suit that killed the Doctor later on, which would again explain her jail sentence for killing an important person.

- So uh... Was River faking not knowing who the child in the space suit was? It's supposed to be her, but she doesn't remember?
- Why did River die in Silence in the Library? If she's the child, who we know can regenerate, then why didn't she? I remember her implying that the machine would kill the doctor, so I guess it would kill her too.
And other stuff that I guess will be answered in the future!

If it was River in the spacesuit who killed the doctor, would she be culpable for his death? She was only a child when she did it and you could argue that she was brainwashed into doing it (someone put her in the suit and raised her). And was the doctor really killed anyway? There must be some jiggery-pokery going on.
