Filming on the new series of Doctor Who began on the morning of Monday, 20th February and the latest press release gives details of guest stars, plus quotes from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.

Filming is underway on the new series of Doctor Who and the last for the Ponds!

Filming has just started on Series 7 of Doctor Who in Cardiff. This series will see the last days of the Ponds with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill returning for their final, rollercoaster voyage with the Doctor. Amy and Rory have been at the Doctor's side for more than two series but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?

On returning for his third series as the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith says: "It's thrilling and exciting to be back and working with two of my closest friends."

Karen Gillan adds: "It's just brilliant to be back on the TARDIS with Matt and Arthur for our craziest adventures yet."

Plus new guest stars so far confirmed to star will include David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams.

Series 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when the Doctor meets a new friend. Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year. Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes - each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you've never seen them before.

^ Dunno but I know the series started in late April last year, so if they've just started now they're pushing it unless they're starting the new series later(just checked on wiki and it said it'd air late 2012 so guessing late Summer-Autumn time?).

Maybe they'll run it around the same time Merlin aired last year, so it coincides with Christmas? Merlin usually starts airing around September/October. Since they don't run at the same time, Merlin might not be on till next year ; ;.

Ever since the new series started, they'e been launching the season on the weekend of Easter. As such the start date floats a little bit.

I heard this rumour too, and am stoked as hell... but I hope this doesn't mean we won't even get to see John Simm regenerating into Benedict. I was rather fond of Simm and would actually have liked to see him carry over to the Eleventh Doctor.

Same thing they did to keep foisting Daleks on the Ninth and Tenth Doctors: some strange loophole in The Doctor's obviously flawed Time Lock allows The Master to escape Gallifrey's destruction.

Hopefully some other Time Lords escape as well. The Doctor is most entertaining being threatened by enemies of his intellect, and if The Silence has a beef with just The Doctor, imagine the pants-shitting there will be over The Master, or several more Time Lords.
