Stephen Moffat Teases Next Years' Doctor Who

“We’re back at the movie posters thing,” the Who supremo tells us, confirming that the next eight episodes will share the sense of widescreen ambition that powered this year’s run. “No two-parters, so they’re all standalone stories. And they are all huge – there isn’t the budget-saver episode. I don’t know how we’ve done this. Possibly we’ll find out at the end when we’ll have no money left and will have to go to prison…”

So what sort of tales will we see as the show builds to its milestone anniversary?

“We have Doctor Who taking on the modern urban thriller, which is not very much like anyone else’s modern urban thriller!

“We’ve got your base-under-siege story in a new way.

“We’ve gone all-out to give you a fantastic alien planet, which is looking absolutely amazing.

“We’ve got a cracking ghost story, a really cracking ghost story.”

    And that’s not all…

“We’ve got Neil Gaiman doing the Cybermen – part of the impulse there was to say “Have we fully exploited the creepy factor of the Cybermen yet?” I thought Neil would be a good match for that.

“You’re going to see “Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS”, with more of the TARDIS than you’ve ever seen before.

“We’ve got Diana Rigg and junior Diana Rigg in an absolutely mental story by Mark Gatiss – all period drama will pale next to this monstrosity of nonsense! It’s absolutely glorious. You’ll watch other period dramas and say ‘When are they going to do the scary bit?’

“And then there’s the finale, which has got some serious fanboy-pleasing going on in it. My aim for it – which I’m about to humiliate myself at the tone meeting by saying – is to have slightly more than you think could possibly happen in one episode. Slightly more treats than you think you could be allowed…”

Seeing some venom regarding the new look, but I like it, and let's be real, the TARDIS never looks one way for too long.

The new style is actually kind of evocative of the Ninth/Tenth's TARDIS, but more metallic.

Wow that looks really neat, and reminds me of the older versions of the TARDIS. Liking his new outfit too.

Makes sense that they would do this. There was a fire in the tardis at the end of the last episode, so it's only natural that the tardis rebuild a new control center. With the wardrobe change and new interior, it's like we are getting a 12th doctor but still keeping the 11th lol.

Love the new look and the new Tardis but still don't like the current Doctor. He's too Childish for my tastes.

I completely agree, however I'm a bit biased because Tennant will always be my Doctor.

I actually like Matt Smith, but I can't deny that Tennant was a good Doctor. And it makes a lot of sense because as a child, he was obsessed with Doctor Who.

It's not that I dislike Matt Smith because I do enjoy him as the Doctor, but like Mrryh said... he's a bit childish for my tastes. (lol @ complaining about him being childish though, it is a kids show after all.)

except it's not a kid's show, Sarah Jane Adventures was a kid's show. Who is "family oriented".

    I LOVED this episode.

    Spoiler: show
Love the look of the new TARDIS even more after seeing it beyond that one photo, as well as the Doctor's new outfit. Clara seems like she will be a really fun companion. Really looking forward to this next season ^^

Oh piffle, it's just a funny line with no plot relevance. Spoilered anyway.

    Spoiler: show
Aliens? Meh. Carnivorous snow? Meh. Human-reptiles? Meh? Lesbians? OH GOD NO!

Great episode. I wonder if the "Intelligence Institute" that the Doctor mentioned was familiar will play into the future. Another Torchwood like place?

With Clara Oswin Oswald, perhaps she will die every episode and be refound again? Or is he going to not make the same mistake again and keep her alive after he finds her again?

For those who haven't seen it yet, at least for a little while before it gets pulled down:

    Spoiler: show
The Great Intelligence is actually from an original series episode or two from the 60s. So this is something of a prequel. They might bring it back, but the 60s eps were very snow-themed, so probably better as an xmas one-off
