Right.
So, The Silence spends all of season 6 preventing The Doctor from reaching Trenzalor, they get precisely no mention this season.
First half of this season gives a lackluster sendoff to the ponds, second half sets up the Gret Intelligence and lackluster adventure with Clara.
As much shit as they went through with The Silence and other adventures, Amy and Rory should have been there for this episode, it feels incomplete that they weren't. And the Great Intelligence lacked presence. It's appearances in the Christmas special and "The Bells of Saint John" felt too disjointed to get the sense of a nefarious conspiracy, so the Intelligence's appearance here felt out of place. And again, The Silence should have been involved.
And was "The Angels Take Manhattan" the last time we see River before "Silence in the Library?" What the fuck, not even a sideways mention.
Finally, I fucking hate these divided seasons.
All in all, the episode one it's own was great: The Doctor's usual energy and wit, Vastra, Strax and Jenny (with her fine self) great as always, and a performance from Clara that we haven't seen since "Asylum of the Daleks" and the Christmas special... also, it was sweet finally figuring out her story, and knowing she'll still be around. Great episode, pity the best followup one can expect for what was generally a disappointing season.
