    Clara...

Is the reason why the doctor went on all of the adventures, she = the tardis. Came in to this world as a leaf. TARDIS's are grown like TREES (journey in to the centre..)

Yea John Hurt is the official 9th Doctor but ever since he regenerated into what would now be the 10th, aka Eccleston, he dismissed him as 'The Doctor' due to all the shit he did during the time war.

While i did extremely enjoy the finale it didn't really make up for the other lackluster episodes but it definitely made me very excite for the 50th and since it ended with him still in his own timestream i can only assume thats how Tennant comes to the rescue :D

    Right.

So, The Silence spends all of season 6 preventing The Doctor from reaching Trenzalor, they get precisely no mention this season.

First half of this season gives a lackluster sendoff to the ponds, second half sets up the Gret Intelligence and lackluster adventure with Clara.

As much shit as they went through with The Silence and other adventures, Amy and Rory should have been there for this episode, it feels incomplete that they weren't. And the Great Intelligence lacked presence. It's appearances in the Christmas special and "The Bells of Saint John" felt too disjointed to get the sense of a nefarious conspiracy, so the Intelligence's appearance here felt out of place. And again, The Silence should have been involved.

And was "The Angels Take Manhattan" the last time we see River before "Silence in the Library?" What the fuck, not even a sideways mention.

Finally, I fucking hate these divided seasons.

All in all, the episode one it's own was great: The Doctor's usual energy and wit, Vastra, Strax and Jenny (with her fine self) great as always, and a performance from Clara that we haven't seen since "Asylum of the Daleks" and the Christmas special... also, it was sweet finally figuring out her story, and knowing she'll still be around. Great episode, pity the best followup one can expect for what was generally a disappointing season.

So I wonder if the 50th is going to take place in the Doctors Timestream world and if its going to be Tennant and Smith vs Hurt

Thats what i'm thinking they are going to do and doing it like that would make Tennants and Pipers return have some sort of sense to it.

Also having reread about the Valeyard it appears that this isn't the first time The Doctor has dismissed a regeneration as 'The Doctor' at least for a time, from the wiki article:
the memory of the Sixth Doctor becomes increasingly associated with the Valeyard in the Seventh Doctor's mind, causing the past five Doctors to 'lock' the Sixth Doctor's memory away for fear of what he might become
While it is from one of the books i assume that it is still considered canon and i have a feeling that what happened there will probably happen here aswell which is:

However, in The Room With No Doors, the Doctor learns to forgive himself for his past sins, removing the guilt that would have led to the Valeyard's creation and freeing the Sixth Doctor from the room.
Which i take as he forgave himself and since then counted the 6th as one of him, i know this is all a complete long shot but meh its killed a few minutes thinking about this lol.

so in one of the novels they say that The Great Intelligence is Yog-Sothoth, one of the Old Ones from Lovecraft. bizarre.

It may take place in the timestream, but I don't think it will be Tennant and Smith vs Hurt. There's no indication that Hurt is evil, only that the Doctor is angry about what happened when he was Hurt. In that last scene, Hurt stood there (while everyone else was running around) and seemed to plead with Smith ("I did what had to be done"). While I'm not sure what sort of villain they could introduce for the 50th, I got the impression that it would be more of a redemption story (or at least an explanation) of what happened and the Doctor finally accepting what he did.

I do agree that the silence should of been mentioned somewhere at least in the Finale, but I do believe they're saving them for the 50th anniversary..

That being said, no mention in the entire season really makes this story arch a bit underwhelming.

The Great Intelligence was so underplayed throughout the entire season that it was really really disturbing on how poor the writing/planning was.

    About Clara
    Spoiler: show
I believe if she had died every couple of episodes, sending the doctor into a wild frantic state trying to figure it all out, it would have given the season more interesting episodes than what we got.

    Other than that, great finale.

We're a smaller fandom than other shows; I'm guessing everyone actually paying attention to the thread has actually caught up?

    Spoiler: show
If Clara had died every episode, it would've given more urgency to the "who is Clara?" question. It was more an idle, every other episode afterthought than the Doctor's driving reason.

However, they would've had to introduce a new Clara every single time. The "it's bigger on the inside" bit would have gotten annoying being in every episode.

Still, I wish Moffant would go back to being an episode writer instead of show runner. He has too many sporadic ideas to be allowed that much freedom.

    Spoiler: show

I have been thinking about the whole "Silence will fall when the question is asked" quote back from S6 and I am starting to wonder if the Silence didn't want the Doctor to go to Trenzalore and open the tomb because they knew that the GI would undo every victory the Doctor had which would wipe out most if not all the universe including the Silence. Because of this, they paired with Madame Kavorian in order to kill the Doctor since he himself was the only one who knew his real name (or so they thought), and had they succeeded no one would be able to open the Doctors Tomb.

    Question

    Spoiler: show
Since they have retcon Jon Hurt as the ninth doctor and moved everyone up a slot what's gonna happen after matt Smith run on the show? The doctor can only regenerate 12 times no? Wonder if a hard reboot is coming abs how fans would react to it

Doctor, is now a term, rather than a person.

I love how they did the finale though. It really opens up John Hurt's role..he's an old man. How long do you think he's been around?

Also, this makes Chris Eccleston's doctor more important / more sad.
