I second the motion to watch An Adventure in Space And Time. Was pretty enjoyable. I watched it just before I watched the special.
A few thoughts on the special, besides AWESOME.

-I find it fitting that Clara is now a teacher, considering the first companions were teachers.
-I really missed the Dalek music.
-I missed Tennant even more than that.
-While I enjoyed Hurt, I feel that he was an unneeded complication. Why not just use McGann's 8th? (Guessing that's what they wanted originally but McGann said no/was unavailable.)
-So...what happened with the Zygons, then?

And yes, probably the best episode of Who in the last few years.

Even the almost-Eccleston-cameo during Hurt's regeneration had me feeling some kinda way.

I would guess much like the race that they sat at the table with and told them to come back x number of years. We never fully see what happens to that group as well living under the ground, just that they came up with something. The same most likely happens here a agreement is made

So if I've never watched an episode of Dr. Who, should I start from the very beginning or start where netflix starts or a little sooner or...

That's not really possible - they managed to lose nearly a hundred early episodes because the BBC wasn't really interested in keeping the tapes of some sci-fi kids' show. Start with Eccleston, since it'll have modern production values and won't be iffy rubber alien suits and Cybermen made from tinfoil and cardboard boxes. Plus, it's Russell T Davies, who was a much better producer and writer than Steven Moffat, the current twit in charge.

Then again, that twit did come up with this episode which was pretty damn good, so y'know, it's not all bad.

About the Zygons...I don't think it matters as far as the specials plot goes. They were more a device used to show the younger (as odd as that is to say) Doctor the man..er men.. he would become. It helped reinforce his choice.

Then the Doctors did what he Doctor does and we are all very excited.

In short, Matt's Doctor is the "11th" Doctor but he has used 12 regenerations already. The Doctor can have 13 incarnations, but that assumes he uses each Regeneration to get a new body. If you count War Doctor and Journey's End Meta Crisis regeneration energy being used, then the current Doctor is at his limit and cannot Regenerate any further.

1. First to Second
2. Second to Third
3. Third to Fourth
4. Fourth to Fifth
5. Fifth to Sixth
6. Sixth to Seventh
7. Seventh to Eighth
8. Eighth to War Doctor
9. War Doctor to Ninth
10. Ninth to Tenth

going to be finding Gallifrey and bringing it back. Somehow the elders of Gallifrey will grant the Doctor a new set of 13 regenerations (this is why I believe that Moffatt wanted to "undo" the destruction of Gallifrey)

Question regarding the ending

How does this ending work with the End Of Time special where Rasalong(SP?) tried to bring Gallifrey into Earth orbit and become all energy beings?

Other than that question I loved the special and all the little easter eggs for fans.

It's the same thing as that the Daleks are "gone" after the time war, but we still saw them a bunch of times during the series. Stray pockets here and there. Just with the time lords, it was only the Master and the high council.

From gallifreys point of view the events from The End of Time had already happened. The High Council failed and I'll have to go back and rewatch but I believe they mentioned their failure. From Tennants point of view this probably happened sometime after The Stolen Earth after the whole Doctor Donna thin since he went off on his own and had a few adventures (warers of mars) before the end of time.
