    - Hearing that the Clockwork Droids (Girl in the fireplace) make a return in Series 8 opener in Victorian London. Set reports show that the Paternoster Gang (Jenny, Vastra, and Strax) are in this episode as well.

    - Twelve is going to have a hard time with Clara and he will have to win her over since Clara was very fond of Eleven.

    - Capaldi will be wearing the same outfit as Matt Smith for the first episode and possibly will not change until the end of the first or second episode
This reminds me very much of Rose and Ten, which also made me realize that Clara is the first companion since Rose that will have to deal with her doctor regenerating into someone new.

A lot of them are pretty good. If you enjoyed the show I'd watch them. They fill in a lot of gaps like what's mentioned in the spoiler.

They're also not very long, like 2 - 8 mins each. Shouldn't take long to get through them at all.

    Time Crash is excellent.

I think it's quite all right. It's a bit weird coming off 10 and 11 because they both wore tie/bowtie (actually a lot of the Doctors have had some sort of neck accessory...) so the lack of one throws me a bit. Nice change of color scheme from all the earth tones 10 & 11 wore too.

Knowing Moffat, more of the same as Series 5 - 7. His Doctor Who, while occassionally containing brilliant/spooky elements, is still always full of childish stuff and more action/movement/crazy concentrical plot twists than actual character development and cohesiveness. It'd be absolutely great if he tones down all that stuff and brings a more serious tone to the series and character of the Doctor than what we got with 11. New Doctor, newish companion, new series, it's time to turn over a new leaf. Buuuuut it's Moffat, so...we'll see. I wish for some intense acting like what Tennant brought to the table, and I think Capaldi is a preeetttyyy good bet for that.

Moffat has at least claimed that Capaldi will be more in the vein of Eccleston and Tom Baker, than Tennant/Smith

The fact that its buttoned, without an accessory that gets me

There is an article about this where Moffat explains what the 12th will be like from one of the Doctor Who Magazines

Steven Moffat has explained why he felt it was time to shake Doctor Who up by bringing in a more dangerous and difficult Doctor in the form of Peter Capaldi.

Moffat says in the new DWM: “There would be little point in making as radical a change as we’ve made unless you’re going to go quite different with the Doctor. The last two Doctors have been brilliant, and have been your ‘good boyfriend’ Doctors. But the Doctor isn’t always like that. There is the sort of Tom Baker, Christopher Eccleston end of the spectrum, where he is mad and dangerous and difficult.”

He adds: “If we’d cast Ben Whishaw, you’d know what we were doing. You’d think, ‘Well, that’s another quirky young man with entertaining hair!’ And he’d be a brilliant Doctor, but Clara would just think, ‘Okay, you’ve rearranged yourself a bit…’”

“I think it was time for the show to flip around a bit. The new version of the show is quite old now. It’s very old… We need the kick-up-the-arse Doctor, in a way, to frighten you and make you think, oh, it’s a different show again.”

Old news but hasn't been posted
Rising Star Joins Doctor Who for Peter Capaldi’s First Series

Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) is set to join the cast of Doctor Who as a recurring character in series 8, which will also introduce Peter Capaldi as the Doctor to millions of viewers for the first time. Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) also teaches.

On joining the show Samuel Anderson said: ‘I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!’

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: ‘For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!’

Filming recently began on episode 4 of the new series which will co-star Robert Goodman (Gangs of New York, Game of Thrones) and episode 5, co-starring Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, Groove High), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (The Smoke, Death in Paradise).

My crazy fan theory is that he's a refugee /fugitive alien disguised as a schoolteacher and keeping a low profile there.

Clara falls in love with him in school and eventually finds out that he's an alien on the run. Hijinks ensue and he joins the TARDIS crew as a companion until the end of Clara's run, where either they all die or she elopes with him XD

There has been no alien companion in the new series (unless you count Jack since he was from another star system but he's still human afaik) and I think it's about time...

    Hermione Norris set to appear
Crimson Field actress Hermione Norris is to appear in the new series of Doctor Who.

The show, which is filming in Lanzarote, is back on BBC One later in the year.

The actress, 47, will appear alongside the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, who has taken over from Matt Smith.

Norris, who has also starred in Cold Feet, Outcasts and Spooks, said: "It's exciting to be part of such an iconic show, and one that my kids can watch."

The episode is being written by Peter Harness, who is behind episodes of Swedish crime thriller Wallander.

Other guest stars already announced to join Capaldi later this year include Ben Miller, Tom Riley and Keeley Hawes.

The show's main writer and producer Steven Moffat said: "It's a testament to the quality of Peter Harness's intense and emotional script that we've been able to attract an actress of the brilliance of Hermione Norris.

"And for the first time since 1984, the Doctor Who production team is heading to Lanzarote.

"The Doctor is returning to the scene of an old adventure - but there have been sinister changes since his last visit."

Frank Skinner also to guest star, Keeley Hawes' role revealed
    http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...kinner_bbc.jpg
Comedian Frank Skinner is to take a guest star role in the forthcoming series of Doctor Who.

Skinner will appear in one episode of series eight - the first with Peter Capaldi playing the Doctor.

The Room 101 presenter, a longtime fan of the show, said he was "beyond excited" at being given the role.

"It's no secret that Frank's been pitching vigorously to get into Doctor Who for a while," said the show's executive producer, Steven Moffat.

"He's been volunteering to be 'third monster on the left' as long as I've been in this job."

"But now, in Jamie Mathieson's sparkling script, we finally have a part that can showcase all of Frank's famous wit and charm. Hopefully he'll get out of my garden now."

Mathieson, a writer on Being Human, said that writing for Skinner was "very cool" - as the comedian had inspired his own career.

"I was a stand-up for a living for quite a few years," Mathieson wrote on his blog.

"When I was trying to figure out how to do it in 1996, his first two stand up videos were part of my boot camp, so there is a nice synchronicity for me to be writing lines for him to deliver nearly twenty years later."

    http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...eeleyhawes.jpg
Keeley Hawes is to play a villain named Ms Delphox in Doctor Who

As yet, no details of the character Skinner will play have been revealed.

He previously appeared in the one-off comedy homage The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, where he played a Dalek operator.

Currently, the comedian is touring the UK with his stand-up show Frank Skinner: Man in a Suit. He also hosts BBC One's Room 101 and the Saturday morning Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio - for which he won a Radio Academy Award earlier this week.

Talking about his role in Doctor Who, Skinner said: "I love this show.

"I subscribe to Doctor Who magazine, I've got a Tardis ringtone, a five-foot cardboard Dalek in my bedroom and - when I got the call saying they wanted me to read for the part, I was in the back of my tour bus watching episode three of The Sensorites."
