If anything the american terms don't make sense, why does a season of tv go from fall thru spring (unless it doesn't). and you can't say that it's "the tv season" because it's not standard. There are summer shows, shows don't all start or end at the same time of the year, etc. calling a block or series of episodes a series makes logical sense. and there's no reason what americans currently call a series can't just be called a show.

BBC Worldwide has apologised to Doctor Who fans after five scripts from the upcoming eighth series have been leaked online.

The Corporation’s commercial arm BBC Worldwide issued a statement to RadioTimes.com pleading for the public not to share the material after the first five scripts of the new series, which will begin broadcasting on August 23, surfaced online. They are the opening feature length episode Deep Breath by Steven Moffat as well as four others.

RadioTimes.com has seen the scripts and knows the titles but will not be making them public.

The statement read: “BBC Worldwide is currently investigating a security issue around Doctor Who Series 8 where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public. We deeply regret this and apologise to all the show's fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series.

“We would like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so that everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches. We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help with this and their continued loyalty."

The scripts are understood to have been disseminated online after being sent to the BBC Worldwide’s newly opened Latin America headquarters in Miami for translation.

“The opening episode is being simulcast globally so of course translations have to be prepared in advance,” said a BBC source.

Deep Breath, the feature-length premiere episode of the eighth series, will air on BBC1 on Saturday August 23.

I know but they use the term Season finale, new season of a certain show etc. when a show is ending then they use series finale. There are summer shows and fall shows, they both run during a specific period so they call it a season. Its kinda standard as Fall season shows start at a certain time usually so does summer, yes there are the off season ones but yea.. Weird that the entire run of a specific show is called a series.

I understand what you mean though. Back in the good old days, when they showed Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time, I remember them saying at the end of season 2 that it was the end of the series and I was very upset. I thought there was no more and this was the season where Angel died and Buffy left on a bus. So it can be confusing at first.

That stuff used to confuse the hell out of me when watching Top Gear because on the season finale they would say "That is the end of our series see you next time" and I'd freak thinking the show was completely over.

Basically series = season, just that UK they call it series and US calls it season. That's why UK listing of seasons are series 1, series 2, series 3 etc. Usually when I talk about UK shows I get into a habit of calling the seasons series so sorry for the confusion lol.

Ok so I curiosity got the better of me and I skimmed through the first episode script and I can say that Capaldi will be awesome.

Clockwork droids appear in this episode, but their ship is the Sister Ship of the Madame de Pompadour

- The Doctor spends most of the episode in his post regenerative amnesia state
- There is a reference to The Doctor and his current face being familiar
- Clara is mad that the Doctor looks older and Vastra explains that his younger faces were like a veil so he could be accepted easily by others.
- There is a funny line about the Doctor describing his eyebrows
- The is a scarf reference
- Strax is awesome as always
- We get to see a little more of Jenny and Vastra's relationship
- A certain someone is quickly mentioned out of no where
- As mentioned before this season's arc is about "The Promise Land" as it is mentioned a lot by the main baddy in this episode

All of the links got pulled pretty quickly (within 24-48 hours) but they are still available through other channels. I know we probably cannot post about how and where so I will leave it at that. As far as the leak itself goes, it was pretty stupid how it supposedly happened:

The script got put on an open server at the Miami office so that the translations could be done for SAP or Spanish subtitles. Someone within the organization went into the open server (probably to work on another project), saw the script and pulled it.

Gene Wilder, Vincent Price and Harrison Ford (as War Doctor) I'm totally down with. The rest can fuck right out of all "American DW" lists, ESPECIALLY Cage. Uuuughhhhh.

On a coincidental note, I was friends with the guy who made that. We were in a college group together (medieval and renaissance players group). Kind of a shock when I looked at the name XD Haven't seen him in maybe a year or so now though.
