So the leak is worse than previously reported. The files were stored on a public server destined for Marcelo Camargo of Marc Drei Productions in Brazil for subtitle work. The server was completely accessible from the outside if you knew the link, you could see the episodes as seen below:

This has since been patched but as you can see the first 6 episodes (special effects largely missing) were publicly available from the server and just recently the second episode appeared on some sites. So needless to say this is such a disaster for the BBC.

I believe most Doctor Who fans are going to want to watch it in all its finished glory instead of spoiling themselves on an unfinished copy. The people who are SO IMPATIENT they can't wait a few weeks to see the episodes as they were intended to be seen must be in the minority, I would think.

Still, damn these worldwide releases for leaking everything early. Korra got that treatment too and I think it fucked with the broadcast schedule or something. Amazing that basic internet security is still beyond so many people who use it on a regular basis. It's like not understanding how to lock your car door. You use it every day but you still just leave it wide open for anyone to get in.

As long as I'm not seeing spoilers before the episodes air I'm cool. But you know that's exactly what less scrupulous people are going to want to use those leaked episodes for.

To be fair, it is more like leaving your car unlocked because it is down a hidden street that only you and someone else know about. For most people, the idea that a URL can be discovered without being directly linked to is a completely foreign concept. They don't realize that someone could wander down the street by accident or spot it from overhead.

Not disagreeing that anyone transferring files over FTP should absolutely understand that FTP is not in any way secure, but it isn't as simple as a car door.

The real fault here, besides educating employees, belongs to whichever BBC IT guy set up a public FTP server accessible to the internet. This shit should already be internal only. It is sort of amazing that files are getting leaked this way. I can't imagine the BBC completely lacking in even a single IT guy who could have told them this would happen.

Since BBC America has shown the Miracle Day series (obviously cut a bit), and that there's still clear references to Doctor Who during the course of the storyline, I would venture to say it's still canon to the Who-niverse. Besides, even if Miracle Day isn't considered canon, the Children of Earth storyline (which was when Frobisher appeared), was still canon. I'd say, unless they do something to actively retcon out Torchwood, even the stuff involving Miracle Day can and should be deemed canon to Doctor Who.

I've watched the first two episodes since I was curious about Capaldi's performance and I will definitely be watching the episodes when they air. In fact my parents are having a viewing party next Saturday with friends and family and everyone is pretty excited about it.

It probably went: IT guy makes it secure > users can't figure out the magic of the internet > IT guy gets too much shit for making it so obviously beyond the reach of the common user > IT guy caves and makes it public

Oh no. I haven't seen it yet (waiting for a theater release on monday), but did Moffat...basically...Moffat it? (you know what I'm talking about, where he throws in so many plot twists, untied ends of plot threads, minor callbacks and little things only he notices that it makes no sense the first seventeen times around - or possibly ever?)

I was REALLY hoping he'd be over that shit after 5 -7.

Silenka... you should know the answer by now. All in all, I am watching it on BBC HD right now. To me, I am glad to see a new episode but... YMMV

Well to be fair as with most Post-regenerations(granted there has now only been 3 in this new run) its a set-up episode so there is gonna be a few wtf moments.
As for Capaldi he was absolutely great, felt Clara was....better i guess still not too sure about her but now they've hopefully killed off all the lovey dovey shit she might be better and the Victorian trio were as great as always you can never go wrong with more Strax!

Really didn't like the episode until towards the end. Capaldi was brilliant though and the restaurant scene was great.

Moffat stated that there was going to be a longer post regeneration process than before. He's still trying to figure out who he is (if he is a good person or not) so this is a theme that should continue for a while.

The next episode should see less of the effects but
    Spoiler: show

He still questions himself on certain things. Also next episode Danny Pink makes a brief appearance

The first couple episodes of a new Doctor are always quite jarring. This was no exception but I still felt like it was the best of the modern bunch. Capaldi should really shine once the cobwebs clear out.

The writing and music were both 10 out of 10. Having Clara have so many doubts probably helped a lot of the viewers navigate the transition as well. I could have done without the phone call flashback, but if it helps people warm up to Capaldi then I guess it serves a purpose. The thing that I hated the most was the clockwork theme for the opening credits. Ugh those were terrible.

Clara's doubts honestly felt forced and made her come off as a petulant, ageist bitch. I really didn't think they needed to "handle" the transition at all, the entire conflict over the doctor's age and appearance felt overblown and unnecessary.

That said, I really enjoyed Cappaldi's performance and look forward to the rest of the season. Interesting tidbit at the end after the Half-Face Man ended up in heaven, I wonder who that woman ends up being.

Think its probably safe to say that she is 'the women in the shop' as to exactly who she is, all i've seen is speculation that she is either
    Spoiler: show
    The Rani or The Master

If its the latter of those it does make that end scene a bit wtf so i'd personally go for the former
