Is it time to delete out “name holding mules” off the Destination Servers?

lol ok Cairthenn. I've still yet to delete my name holding mule and I am still deciding what would be the "safer" and better way. Your recommendation was to delete it and just let the merge go through I guess? I am so paranoid, I don t know what to do.

I guess both ways should work right?

a) delete the name holding mule now since the servers are locked and let the merge do its thing tomorrow

or

b) keep the mule and delete him prior to logging in to my main, which will require typing in my name before logging on as my main.

Because server mergers have never happened before, and we dont know the after affects. Though I wouldnt put it passed SE to make some huge fowl up of this, and cause every charcter of host and destination servers to be completly wiped, and all backup data containing their information disappear from the world.

I see more room for error if you don't delete it first. Then again, I've never transferred a character where the name was taken and then deleted the character of the same name so I don't know how that works. I assume both work fine, but the former just seems so much safer to me.

Yeah I see your point. I also have this weird fear that since I am deleting my mule so close to the update now (about 13 hrs left), that may create some odd problem where the server won t update fast enough and my main might suffer anyway. I know it s supposed to be instantaneous, but this merge thing being first for us, I just don t know...

The server updates instantly, always. Once it's deleted, it's deleted. (Unless you restore, obviously)

I doubt it since if I understand it correctly, the merge will be done and over with before a single person will be able to log on. Meaning that by that time, my main's name would have already been placed on the server and would therefore be untouchable. Am I right on that?

I'm pretty certain the server merge will be one of the first things they do, and it obviously has to be complete in its entirety before anybody can log in. So yes, you'll be safe..

I have not used their irc, but seeing as i have over 12k posts there, i believe i've seen quite a bit of the forums. There may be an abundance of idiots, but most are not that bad.

Don't know if im getting this entirely right..
but heres my understanding of the situation.

if you belong to the server whose name remains after merge, you get priority in keeping a name (if an identical one arises).

So, if you're from the primary server.. you have to do nothing.

If you're from the secondary server, you can do this..

First, create a name-holding mule in advance.

Then when today comes by...

either

1. delete your mule at the very last minute, like just before servers go down. That way the name is freed from the Primary server during the merge process and your name (from Secondary) will get thru and stay.

2. leave your mule until after the update. Then delete it, and log in. Because your name should have failed the merge process, they'd ask you to rename, but since you owned the other one and just removed it, it should be available again and you can take it just fine.

2 is a bit shady cos I'm not aware of how the rename process goes (if its manual or automated). Sticking to 1 is safer imo.

As long as you delete you mule before you log in your main, you'll be fine. If you want to change your name, you'll be prompted to select a new one, once you try and log in with your main, if that name is taken. As long as this works like a server transfer.

It is the same concept of when you jump servers during a server transfer except this time there's about 5000 or so people being moved to one server, so long as you planned accordingly your fine to receive your name again on the new server :D
