I can't believe there's been a multiple-page argument about the relative value of five minutes. When it comes to efficiency there is a point where all the extra effort you put into trying to accomplish a goal as quickly as humanly possible completely negates the benefit, and Failure has apparently overstepped the line by a couple of miles.

Is there a word that describes something so specific, so detailed, that its irrelevant. Like, PI being 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288~~, unless you're actually doing some scientific calculations, why bother going through all that when 3.1416 will suffice?

Um...you be trollin? You dont work your way up for the basis of rounding. If you're trying to round 0.499 to the nearest whole number, you don't work your way up:
WRONG
0.499 -> 0.4(10)0 -> 0.500 -> 1
WRONG

You truncate anything past the first digit you want to round to
RIGHT
4.99 -> 0.4 -> 0
RIGHT
