    Windower and Windows 7 64bit

I am having issues loading FFXI past the Start through Windower. I've searched the forums on many sites and can't find my problem duplicated. After Start and FFXI tries to load, it is going true full screen. Init doesn't fire up at all it seems. It seems that after Windower POL loads FFXI, it loads it in the true program and stops using Windower. A few seconds into the FFXI load screen, I get a POL error and it crashes. I've tried many of the tricks others have used for Windows 7 issues but they don't seem to work for what I have going on. I don't know why it seems that Windower is not loading FFXI after POL. I'm new to 64 bit. I've had some issues with permissions with other file things I've been trying to do...specifically, having to change ownership and all that crap. Is this a possible issue in this situation? Is it possible to just own everything and never have to run stuff as administrator? I'm quite annoyed with ownership and permissions when this is my damn computer.

    Any advise?

    Thanks all.

Do you have beta nvida drivers? they cause hell for my windows 7 machine and sounds like similar problems when i used them.

one other question. do you get the mandy in the corner on PoL? if that's not there need to look at other areas.

I had the same problem also with Win7 x64, i just went into the windower properties and checked the run in Windows XP mode. Also using the Win7/Vista POL.

My POL graphics are kind of blocky but when it goes fullscreen into the game they are good.

I ran in XP more and it loaded windowed with init firing off. Wonderful. Only I don't like having to run in XP mode if I don't have to. Anyone not having to do this that can give hope? If I'm able to run without XP mode, I'll keep hunting a solution; otherwise, i'll settle. Thanks for the help. At least I can log in now

Oh, and for the wierd blocky graphics in POL, try double tapping the top bar as if you would make a window full screen. It fixes it for me every time. I think windower opens POL in a slightly different size and it distorts everything. Double tapping puts it where POL wants it to be.

I might be stating the obvious, but w/e. I had troubles myself when i first got win 7(64) and this is what i did to get pol to work.

First, make sure you've downloaded POL for Win 7 from the playonline website. http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/dow...l?pageID=media That link should take you right to the POL download.

Secondly, after you have the pol for win 7 downloaded/installed/etc, make sure when you run the launcher for windower you do so as administrator(Right click->Run as admin).

There are known problems with v3 of windower, as stated in other threads, but the only developer currently working on v3 (aikar) cannot reproduce them and has little interest in FFXI these days, it seems. So those two things combined make it unlikely to get fixed unless someone can figure out exactly how to reproduce it on a machine that hooks the game just fine.

That being said, currently v4 of windower is in development alpha but doesn't have many plugins supported yet (completely new architecture). In time, that will likely replace the need to run v3 at all, but it'll be a bit.

I know it doesn't help at all but I am running 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate and I had/have no problems with Windower.

I did nothing special during the install, either.

Bites/ It's not working again. Crash after FFXI window comes up. No hook. No red text, nothing. I can log all the way into the game but as soon as i try and resize or even touch the top bar, crashes. Windower does not load at all. Something is borked and I don't know what to do.
