The man is a giant in the land of midgets

here he talks about the science behind Mass Effect 2
I miss having the science channel D: He hosts SciQ sundays and was on pretty much every interesting show on that channel.
I love watching that guy talk about shit, he blows my mind every time
Omg the part about the priest, the lawyer, and the physicist is hilarious.
Edit: Perpetual motion machine people annoy me so much. Last month this engineer that goes to my church kept telling me that he built one. If we weren't in church I would have punched him.
Wow,he actually references the same theory I referenced above, about using spinning black holes as wormholes. Except I mentioned using them to travel to other universes and back to ours, whereas he's using them just to travel to other parts of our universe instantaneously. But I wonder, if you use it as a wormhole to another part of our universe, is it possible to use this to time travel? Like, enter the wormhole and exit at the same point in space, but at an earlier time? That way we can ingore the problems associated with traveling to another universe, (but still face many other problems).
Edit: Also, I don't know when he did this lecture, but it's been shown in the past few years that our TV signals probably decay to unreadable levels by the time they get about a light year away from Earth. So no, extraterrestrials probably wont be able to watch our old TV shows.
But on the other hand, we may be able to purposely generate signals strong enough to be readable at such a distance, in which case we should be sure to only send them the good stuff. One physicist pointed out that our first high powered broadcast was Hitler giving a speech (I don't know if this is true or not though). So yeah, hopefully our signals do decay as predicted so we can control what stuff they see and what they don't lol.
Yes.
that was the theory he used, but it involved a planet sized chunk of negative matter and an impossible strong spaceship
Oh my bad, I havent gone back to that thread today. As far as what my focus will be I am not sure on that yet, that is something I will work with my professor(s) about and like to talk to people with real world experience in before I know for sure. ROFL that would be awesome if were were professors at the same school, that would be too awesome for words.
You realize that black students would have no excuse to not excel in math and science with the both of us there right? haha. Speaking of which, did your professor say anything else regarding his suggestions you intern here in NC? Oh man that would be great on so many levels, we'd have tons to do and you wouldn't have to worry about being stuck in your dorm on holidays QQ
That would be interesting if you could, have you read or done anything regarding Kerr's wormholes? In theory a Kerr "could" act as a portal to and fro a destination to either parallel universe or as you wondered, to a place in our universe that is just too far to reach any other way. The idea of numerous galaxies in relatively proximity to one another and attached at the proverbial hip is a dead sexy idea.
Ill post some Kerr wormhole goodness here in a few mins when I get some time.
Correct. These signals, they do nothing.
That is true and yes I agree, I mean what a welcome message to send out to other civilizations right lol? Hitler being Earth first default ambassador is a scary prospect lol.
We actually sent out a radio greeting to Messier 13 iirc about 30 years ago? Sadly it will take some 25,000 years to reach there QQ I dont know about you but I have ever intention of being around for when that message arrives!
My professor hasn't said anything about NC, but he's told me before that if I want to go I'm guaranteed to be accepted with good funds too since he has connections there. So now it's just a matter of whether or not I get any better offers. He says that NC isn't all that great (for solid state physics at least, and I may decide to go into that since I'd get better jobs than any other form of physics). And from the looks of it, the math department may be able to get me into a top math school easier than the physics department can get me into a top physics school. So I may decide to go the math route (since I'll already have my masters anyways, whereas I'll only have a bachelors in physics). If I go the math route, I probably wont be in NC, and if I go the physics route, it depends on where else I get offers.
So basically, it just depends on a bunch of other factors. Are there any top math schools in NC? Since my brother is going to Duke, being in NC is definitely going to be overall the most convenient place to go. You'd love my brother, by the way. You need to meet him when he goes down there. He's just like you except he's into social sciences instead of natural sciences.
We can have our own little family reunion! I mean since we both have shitty families and trifling siblings lol. Then again I dont need to tell you that, we've walked down that road many a times @@
Yeah, that's another reason you should meet my older brother. He's had the same experiences as us (obviously, since he's my brother). But he has a whole different perspective on it since he actually studies history and economics and other social sciences (well, his perspective isn't really different, it's just 'better'. He's more educated on the subject). He's written papers and done presentations about the black community and such. He's the only other person in my entire family who's going to school and such instead of selling or doing drugs. I think I've told you about him before.
I'm trying to get my little brother (and the rest of my entire family) to give up the street life/gangsta BS and go to college, but yeah...you know how that goes. He's one of the few people in my family who doesn't have a felony yet, and I'm trying to get him straightened out before he gets one.
I need to start getting back on MSN. I just realized how long it's been since we've talked.
Edit: Wait, I thought a Kerr Wormhole and a ring singularity were the same thing? Is there a difference?
Edit 2: My bad, you're right, a Kerr Wormhole isn't exactly the same. A Kerr wormhole is when the rotating singularity is uncharged. And it's called Kerr-Newman if it is charged. I've never heard the term "kerr-newman" before. I thought all rotating black holes were just Kerr.
I know man, its funny how closely our lives mirror one another. You need to let me know when he has some free time or something, Durham is a stones throw away and is nothing to go up that way, plus they also have a BBQ restaurant there that I haven't eaten at in forever.
That Carolina pulled pork sammy is calling me.
When my brother went to NC for an internship, he came back telling me how much better the food is down there. But I didn't think much of it because pretty much every region has better food than Ohio.
My brother should be down there by fall 2011. If I go, it wont be until fall 2012. I think he's going to get his PhD in history or economics.
fcking goddamn need one reference letter before i can apply fuck
this seems like a good place to put this
Nice, are you planning on helping him move or coming to visit? Just think, Kyo is down here too and knows how to get down, Isladar frequents Fayettenam etc. this could turn into a l33t party just out of the blue lol.
That would be awesome if you did, I'd certainly do the driving and hook you or whoever up with room and board, lord knows my house is large enough to easily accommodate.
I'll probably try to come visit him in the summer after his first school year just to have an excuse to leave Akron. I didn't know other BG peeps were near by. This is going to be so awesome.
You guys can help me build a doomsday device and take over the world. Or we could just kick it and have fun, but let's not take world domination off the table yet.
