Yes, both in Reef. The place is generally abandoned too, so I could be sure me or my group were alone in the zone, and in both of those examples we started from Yawn-spam mode.
I had a Zhayolm Apkallu run away to link once, but I never even once got them to the point of aggroing before they became invincible. This fits with my theory too, because I was never able to get more than 15 minutes alone in Zhayolm before a BST or something would show up.
I'm done with the trial so I'm never going back to test, but tl;dr:
Grouping with people seems to make Apkallu begin to resist damage more quickly, but does not effect their other hate-based abilities like changing to linking and aggroing behaviors, choice of TP moves, or tendency to run for help.
Meh idk, did my first 200ish solo, did the last 250 in a party of 3-5 (pt size changed throughout), never had a problem w/ dmg resist (well yea it came up but not to the point where we couldn't outkill repops)
Thought I'd tell people something interesting that I found to be helpful doing trials. A War with Fell Cleave, and a healer or 2 will absolutely annihilate mobs in a retardedly fast amount of time. Did a lightsday trial with crabs in kuftal and killed about the 50 mobs in <20 minutes.
Basically just threw on my def/vit gear, gathered a shit load of mobs and then turned on Retaliation and spammed Fell Cleave like crazy. You can easily kill a huge group of mobs (15+ mobs limited only by the healing) in a matter of 1-2 minutes. The only limiting factor really was the time it takes to gather and repops. In theory this might work even better with a puller that gathers the mobs while the War + Healer kills them. Also having phalanx II for the War would help a lot.
Holy fuck thank you for this. So fucking awesome to drop like 30 mobs at once with phalanx + FS spam.
I teamed up with an Apoc DRK in Kuftal today. He needed Catastrophe kills, I just needed 50 kills of any mob.
Basically, I would aggro 10-15 Robber Crabs, his mage would sleep them... I'd melee them down to ~20%, and the DRK would kill with his WS.
I had my 50 mobs done in one game day, by 13:45 game time.
I flagged 1701 today, and was surprised when the pixies in Abyssea - La Theine were counting towards elemental kills. Not that I'd go kill those over smn pets, but I thought it was weird.
So I heard from multiple sources that Yagudo High Priests in the past drop Bottled Pixie 100% of the time. Went outside Castle Oztroja [S] to fight the single High Priest twice with no drop. Afterwards, went inside to do the same with the High Priest near the entrance. Again, no drop...
Edit: nm forgot I had one on me from a while back which is prolly why it didn't drop...
it does work, or at least it did, but last time i went was before the magian trials were released, and they may have adjusted it.
Anyone have a guide for the +magic damage Staves and Avatar Perp?
I was considering doing the Ice & Thunder for BLM, and Darkness for SMN but I have no fucking clue where to find EP saplings @ BLM 78 (that won't kick my ass either)
try kings ransperre tomb
aggro beetles there though;/

Tarubaby's Guide to DMG+ Indra's Staff and Varuna's Staff (Warning may require level sync!)
================================================== ==================
Indra's
=====
Trial 790 (50 Treants Weather): Grauberg (S) - Knotty Treant - frequent weather
Trial 791 (50 Spiders Weather): Kuftal or Boyahda - Both suck, deal with it
Trial 816 (50 EXP Monsters Lightning's Day): West Ronfaure level sync 10+ - Destroy everything; quick and easy.
Trial 817 (75 Beasts Lightning's Day): West Ronfaure level sync 10+ - Sheeps and Bunnies, easy.
Trial 822 (150 Vermin) - Grauberg (S) - Chigoes
Trial 823 (200 Slimes) - Garlaige (S) - 8 Slimes pop in individual rooms left of campaign area (G6 - Map2). Sucky part is 16 min repop time.
Trial 1681 (200 Beetles) - Saurumuge (S) - Goblin's Beetles; there's an area with 2 spawns and quick repops.
Trial 1683 (250 Funguars) - Boyahda - Death Caps; gather and GA.

Varuna's

Trial 790 (50 Treants Weather): Grauberg (S) - Knotty Treant - frequent weather
Trial 841 (50 Slimes Weather): Ranguemont level sync 37 - Ooze - almost constant weather but low spawns and 16 minute repop time. Again, suck it up
Trial 842 (50 EXP Monsters Iceday/Weather) - If you're impatient you can blow through this trial at 75+ in Uleguerand Range. If Iceday is up level sync 10+ in Starting zones.
Trial 843 (75 Amorphs Iceday/Weather) - Level sync 10+ South Gustaberg - Stone Eaters; 'nuff said.
Trial 848 (150 Arcana) - Sky Despot Camp - Dolls. Could also farm Diorite if you're in need.
Trial 849 (200 Lizards) - Attohwa Chasm - There's a spot up in the middle by Tiamat you can pull like 7 at a time and there's 5 minute repops.
Trial 1708 (200 Bees) - Wajoam - Pephredos - Area by Iriz Ima has 6 at a time.
Trial 1709 (250 Crabs) - Kuftal - In my personal experience this is the best place. HOWEVER, with the multitude of trials that have either crabs or aquans you can expect some stiff competition.
I pumped out both staves in a week and a half (triboxing BLMs helps though).
Awesome guide, thanks. Still seems like a shitload of work though >_<
Really, really wish they'd just nix the EXP requirement, fuckers (and the Astral Flow not counting for kills! GRRRRR)
Kill x mob on day seems easiest if you can 2box a dd and just go rdm or brd
Den of rancor has an infinite supply of slimes in close proximity, worth the run out if you want to do it in large chunks or all done at once. Can kill 2 in 1 mp pool solo usually.
Grauberg has an infinite supply of fungar and there are usually other people there killing them too for other weapon trials (like thf and nin).
2 questions:
1) So I can continue to be lazy, where do people usually hunt EP vermin?
2) Is there any real use for the Store TP+8 Barracudas? Or, should I wait it out after the 300 Howling Fist trial and wait for the paths to expand before picking a route?
(I have better H2H weapons at the moment)
You know where Panzer Percival spawns in Jugner Forest? If you go to the north camp for him but in Jugner [S], there's 7-8 Biddybugs there. Easy as pie to kill, good profit.
As for Barracudas, I'd hold off on them. I think they were meant to be an easy way to get a level 80 weapon, not really the optimal route to follow.
