    Yea, katana in Japanese is really just sword that has just one edge. The only thing that you can really argue is Amano, it should be under the category of a double edged sword.

    Was looking at Ukko's fury and supposedly it doing 3-4K average, Would the WoE form of that Axe be the best in the game just because of the WS? Besides the real one ofc. Seems that Bravua isnt as appealing if that is the case. And with the Axe only needing chamber 1+2 for coins and then kindred Crests, weap shouldnt even be that hard.

    i can't say great katana because it already is and it can't be a great sword since that's not a sam weapon so sadly a bad mix of them both is a swortana

    Wondered about that from time to time, Amano is style of very old Japanese sword called a Chokuto. Here from wiki:

    The chokutō (直刀?, "straight sword") is a type of Japanese sword that dates back to pre-Heian times. Chokutō were made in later periods, but usually as temple offering swords. Chokutō were straight and single-edged (sometimes partially double) hacking swords. That chokutō's design was originally imported to Japan from China, though seemingly most often through Korea. It is based on the archetypal Han Dynasty long straight iron sword with a ring pommel.

    Chokutō was among the earliest in the history of Japanese sword forging. It was created before the differential tempering technology evolved. Chokutō typically come in hira-zukuri and kiriha-zukuri tsukurikomi (blade styles) which make them very distinct from later tachi and katana which rarely use these forms. The main distinctive feature of the chokutō is the blade, which is curved on the katana and straight on the chokutō. Its blades are also often confused with shikomizue. Very few examples of chokutō mountings remain, although enough to reconstruct their various typologies which always followed chinese and Korean models, this is evident in one of the last Kofun period sword, the warabitetō (蕨手刀). There is little evidence to suggest that Chokutō were ever mounted as cane swords.
    Not that it has any real relevance lol, but interesting if you enjoy the history. I believe the actual Amanomurakumo/Kusanagi sword, one of the three treasures of Japan iirc, is a chokuto-looking sword.

    All tests are done at 100% or with sekka against wild rabbit using SA.

    There's a thread in alla mentioning about the second tier critical bonus trait for THF85. It haven't been tested much, but from the number it looked like the total increment become 8%, and that's what I use here. The calculation below might be off pending more critical bonus testing.

    ((D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP + DEX) * pDIF * CritBonus = MaxDamage
    ((45 + 13 + WSC) * fTP + 137) * 3.15 * 1.08 = 1870
    ((58 + WSC) * fTP + 137) * 3.402 = 1870
    (58 + WSC) * fTP = 1870/3.402 - 137
    (58 + WSC) * fTP = 412
    58fTP + WSCfTP = 412
    WSCfTP = 412 - 58fTP
    WSC = (412 - 58fTP) / fTP
    WSC = (412/fTP) - 58

    ((58 + WSC) * (fTP + 0.1) + 137) * 3.402 = 1900
    (58 + WSC) * (fTP + 0.1) = 1900/3.402 - 137
    (58 + (412/fTP) - 58 ) * (fTP + 0.1) = 421
    412/fTP * (fTP + 0.1) = 421
    412 + (412/fTP * 0.1) = 421
    412/fTP * 0.1 = 9
    412/fTP = 90
    90fTP = 412
    fTP = 4.677777777777...

    It comes out at ~25% DEX and ~4,677777777... fTP, but when you plug this in, the theoretical damage came out lower. The next closest mod would have been 30% DEX. With that, the fTP is around 4.5, and this actually fit the test damage very well.

    Using 30% DEX, 4.5 fTP, truncating every decimals
    137 DEX theoretical max damage: 1873
    My max damage (n=40): 1870

    137 DEX with gorget theoretical max damage: 1905
    My max damage (n=35): 1900

    Using ejiboo's data:
    81 DEX theoretical max damage: 1468
    His max damage (n=21 if you count the STR test): 1406

    112 DEX theoretical max damage: 1696
    His max damage (n=11): 1637

    I think it's safe to assume that 30% DEX and 4.5 fTP at 100% TP is the modifier or very close to it. Even if you use evisceration for solo ws, I'd say this is still the definitive main hand dagger for thief aside from relic/mythic/empyrean. Dancer is out of luck, the WS suck without SA/TA, doing like 800 max damage. The same goes with twashtar.

    Are these WS numbers from a Twashtar or Daka+1? and inside or outside abyssea? Im working on a Daka+1 atm for rudra's storm and im hearing its a great WS if you stack the modifiers well. Just curious^^;

    Ok, for those who don't read Japanese:

    片手剣 = One Hand Sword = Called Sword in game
    両手剣 = Two Hand Sword = Called Great Sword in game
    片手刀 = One Hand Blade = Called Katana in game
    両手刀 = Two Hand Blade = Called Great Katana in game

    You notice all 4 has the same middle letter, it means hand. And the first letter either means single or two. The last word means sword or blade, however, this is straight from wiki:

    is an East Asian word which means sabre or sword

    (Japanese simplified form 剣, Chinese simplified form 剑, Chinese traditional form 劍, pinyin jiàn) is the Chinese character for "double edged sword" (as opposed to "single-edged sword")

    So yes, even though it doesn't say Ken, it is just a sword that is single edge.

    Also, Amano is 天叢雲剣 in Japanese, 剣 is sword per the above, and it is actually a double edged sword per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kusanagi

    Assuming it is a 1-hit attack with 30% DEX and 4.5 fTP (as he said), it would work out to about 5.5 fTP and 30% DEX with offhand included. Evisceration is 6.0 fTP with offhand included, 30% Dex, and can Crit.

    The weaponskill looks good for Thief because they can force a crit on the 4.5 fTP swing (comparable to forcing a 4-5 crit Evisceration), but it's worse than Evisceration for Dancer (or lolddbrd). Evisceration's damage potential is higher regardless of which job you're on.

    Based on testing by someone with Revenant Fists +1 on Alla, Victory Smite appears to be 2.4 fTP, 50% Str. It's 4-hit, and crit rate varies with TP. Without Abyssea buffs, it's slightly better (maybe 5%) than Asuran Fists. With RR+SS atma and Abyssea buffs, it's about 75% better than Asuran.

    Rough estimates place Revenant Fists +1 as on par with fire Taipan Fangs +1 outside Abyssea, and up to 20% better with Abyssea crit atma buffs.

    Verethragna numbers with Victory Smite are just ridiculous, rating up to 30% better than Spharai with Abyssea buffs (though that was without tweaking gear).

    Are you assuming the Spharai/Taipan+1 mnk is using Ascetic's Fury with RR/SS atma also, or still using Asuran?
