I think you kinda have to wait a bit to see if you want to make sure you get the best one. Right now the edge to empyrean is almost all due to the WS, but who is to say that no more new WS that are available to everyone is coming out. I am sure from 85 to 99 we will get a couple new WSs, and for certain jobs, if those WSs are powerful enough, empyrean will lose its edge. So it really depends.

Anyways.... The counter on level 99 spharai sounds too sexy to pass up How do you like your weapon appie?

Last time I bothered testing that Counter on lv85 Spharai, it looked like SE forgot to add the effect that goes with the text. So if SE slaps Counter VI on the lv99 Spharai they better add the counter % to go with it. I should test it more, with gear that adds counter to see if SE really forgot the effect or that there's something else going on, but I hardly play the game as it is lol. Dec patch will be probably the first time again that I actually do something while logged in.

If I read Motenten's stuff on FFXI ZAM Monk forums correctly, the only reason Vereth is winning from Spharai is because of Victory Smite, even without atma's. I'd wait it out until lv99, with the risk of currency becoming stupid rare and/or expensive if relics are getting back on top.

I agree with Appie and Nameless, bide your time and wait it out. A lot of the relic weapons are currently 2nd, or 3rd best now (The ones that weren't underpowered already, anyway). Honestly Spharai is going to be interesting because its one of the more Gimmicky relics in that it has an effect like Counter rate that goes with the damage. Ones like Amano and Bravura (unless that -pdt helps that much?) seemed to be more purely damage output, and those are the ones suffering the most.

I do think its funny how much of a boost Raknarok has gotten, I wonder how it compares now lol. But yeah, I want to say Spharai is one of the safer bets to finish now, but definitely wait it out and see just in case. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but I have a suspicion that relics are going to get more of a boost someplace along the line other than DMG/att/acc increase and the occasional tier of counter/crit/etc.

It is incredibly likely that Ragnarok still sucks:
* Critical hit rate experiences diminishing marginal returns. (5-10% boost anyway?)
* No worthwhile weaponskill
* Great Sword delay still sucks

Too bad Scourge isn't a crit damage WS like Fury. You'd think it would make more sense given the nature of the weapon.

I just assumed that counter 1 was +10 counter and counter 2 was +12 and counter 3 was +14 with the level 90 version being +16 counter, lvl 95 version being +18 counter level 99 spharai version being +20 Counter.

Least it seems that way with ragnarok and the same pattern follows on burtgang with 10, 12, 14 on -PDT and Emnity. At level 99, burtgang is gonna be like a Terra staff that you can equip an aegis shield with which looks hot to me anyways.

But yea, I am 100% sure that we will get new weaponskills just from skilling up our weapons in the 90s somewhere and possibly a WSNM at level 99 capped skill.


I wanna say that the level 99 weaponskill we get should be stronger then the old level 85 empyrean weaponskill but who knows. Those relic weaponskill are old too so maybe at level 99 they get like final heaven II, Tachi:kaiten II, etc.

How much do these empyrean weaponskills average on damage numbers outside of abyssea or basically without atma? Was wondering if they can skillchain level 3 twice in a row like relics too.

Lately I been farming nonstop at JP time since I have 2 jobs for the last 5 months so I got all this gil built up and still can't decide if spharai or Verethragna is better. I guess I will continue to farm gil till march 2011 when hopefully the level 99 cap will be out by then. I would never get 2 relics of the same weapon type, I would rather help a friend get his cause im not greedy, so I wanna pick one.

They might make a new weaponskill for the relic weapons at 99 and make the abyssea ones unlockable after 500 weaponskills so I do not want to be thrown a curve ball at lvl 99.

Yes the new WS can SC level 3 twice in a row. Also Quietus 2x can do Darkness....I think most if not all of them 2x can do Light or Darkness.

Here is some damage on random NMs. No buffs aside from Yellow Curry, no BRD, the 2k and 2.1k had 1 DA proc on it. The 1.6k and 1.7k did not. In Abyssea no atmas that would boost the damage either.

DRK is literalli obsolete atm. I sincerely hope they plan to fix some if it's problems in Abyssea, regardless of whether or not content from 90-99 takes place outside Abyssea.

Is the damage bad? I honestly don't know. I haven't really seen Fudo, Torcleaver, etc. with no buffs/atmas/etc. so I don't have a frame of reference.

This was with a awful ws set. *Did not know of kaiten build at the time* And with no DD atmas other then Lacovie. Woe version, that is some sad Scyth ws damage. Which is gonna make my drk friend pretty sad.

Compared to Victory Smite, Ukko's Fury, Chant du Cygne, or Blade: Hi, it's thoroughly unimpressive. Against Fudo (since neither can take advantage of RR) it's meh, but the ignores defense property should at least let it scale decently well.

Agreed I used to play DRK a lot because I always thought the difference between the jobs was exaggerated and it could still keep up but nowadays... well, I have DRG and THF...

My friend with a fully unlocked H2H Emp says he is destroying his LSmates in parses outside of abyssea.
