i will agree to disagree on this topic until the math is apparent, for the most part i think that comparing relic vs empyrean is supported by anecdotal evidence, i just take offence to thief being delegated as "not a dd" when a good thief is better than an average war/sam/rng/mnk any day

I never said THF wasn't a DD. I said that it should take a hit in damage for using SA/TA to upgrade TH instead of boosting overall damage by a small amount.

Isn't Twashtar mainly a DNC weapon, because Striking Flourish with AF3+2 body gives non-crit ws 71% critical hit rate or some shit?

WAR's got a lot of blue and red procs, is the best DD overall and can cleave when it's needed. I look at it this way. War fulltiming hasso needs more than a whm to survive (on anything worth a fuck anyways). Once you drop down to seigan or utsusemi, you fall behind in damage as well. (cause hasso is pretty much the defining JA for 2handers (for singular mobs, retaliation of course for hoards of mobs)

Birds is my only guess, my thief is far from gimp and on anything but birds i see 3.7k evis on top end dmg (this is with twashtar).

Yea, that's my guessing too. I got highest, by far, with Evis at 3.1k. And normal dmg range from 2.1k to 2.7k. No Twas or Mandau tho ^.^

I'm still interested to find out what gears set he is using to spike up to the 6k dmg.

Hard to make that argument, because Striking Flourish has a 2 minute recast and indirectly costs you about half of a weaponskill to use. Thieves can at least (in theory) use a stacked Rudra's about every 30 seconds. Also, when I did the math I was assuming a 30% DEX mod with different fTP for Rudra's. Now when I do the math and assume a 50% crit rate from Striking, SF->Rudra's average is competitive with Evisceration in Abyssea (within 100 damage depending what values I use).

Also, I don't know where 71% crit rate came from but my experience is not quite that high. Maybe hovering around 50% outside Abyssea. It's on my list of things to nail down, but not super high up there. I did a 6k+ Rudra's in Abyssea today (on the Colibri NM in Misa without food). It made me a happy panda. :3

Well, in that case, Torcleaver and Quietus are literally exactly the same dmg. I have seperate setups going for both WS mods, WS gorget and belt for both, and use seperate atmas for each. In every situation, they are exactly the same. It does not matter which i use, they are the exact same WS.

Why is Rudra all of a sudden gonna be better for dnc? Unless you're wooshing me or I'm completely oblivious to something, it doesnt matter if you have crit hit rate+200%...without SA/TA, Rudra's wont crit
