Blade: Hi Critical Hit Rate Testing
Blew way too much time with this crap, but I went out and WS'ed a hundred lvl.nothing bunnies to determine the critical hit rate bonus applied to Blade: Hi.
lvl.85 Kannagi: 52 dmg, 13 fSTR, 100 total AGI for 51 WSC. 116 dmg total. Single wielded the weapon. All WS's occurred at exactly 100.2 TP.
My max non critical Blade: Hi should come out to 1193 dmg. My min critical Blade: Hi should come out to be 1197. So anything less than or equal to the former I counted as a non-crit, while anything greater than or equal to the latter I counted as a crit.
Did it over three sessions.
The first ended at 19 crits / 44 ws = 43.1818
The second ended at 9 crits / 22 ws = 40.9090
The third ended at 19 crits / 34 ws = 55.8823
Overall 47/100.
47 - 24 (natural, dDex, merits) comes out to 23%.
100 samples isn't nearly large enough to be too confident, but it seems reasonable enough to assume that Blade: Hi has somewhere approximately +20% crit rate attached to it at 100 tp.
Or it could be what the JPs reported, a doubling of the normal crit rate. Or it could be that 47%'s 95% confidence interval is +/- 10% so the bonus could reasonably be anywhere between 10 and 30%. I don't believe the JP report, because then anyone using Razed Ruins in Abyssea would have a 95% crit rate with the first hit of Ukko's/Blade: Hi. Easy to test, but I don't believe it's consistent with people's experiences, although it might be if it only doubles DEX/merit/base crit rate.
For a Binomial (2-state system) like Critical hit rate, the 95% confidence interval in percentage = +/- 1.96*100*SQRT(P*(1-P)/N)
SQRT(.47*.53/100)*100*1.96 = +/- 9.78%
Quadrupling your sample size halves your confidence interval width. I sometimes think there's an overly large emphasis put on obtaining exact numbers. Narrow 95% confidence intervals are necessary to be sure of your results, but we're playing video games. Rather than waste your time with that, if you're willing to be satisfied with a 50% confidence interval (0.7 instead of 1.96, +/-3.5%, so call it 20-25% crit rate boost, which would predict capped crit rate of 95% with RR and GH), it might be smartest to move on and do higher TP tests to see if it's worth using a TP Bonus Moonshade earring for instance.
I know for a while people said they were using RR/GH/DD with Kannagi to cap their crit rate, but any crit boost like this would make DD unnecessary.
PS. Just as a testing tip I'd really have to recommend building TP on NIN using a gun. It's going to be dramatically faster than running around Katana-ing bunnies.
Anyone with wildfire. I'm curious what your highest # has been during aftermath. Highest i've seen is 400 but i haven't really tried to shoot much during aftermath.
I'm not quite that masochistic enough to katana Ronfaure bunnies for TP. Used a Lamian Kaman -1 and Bone Arrows with a Rajas and Brisk Mask to bump the TP per hit to 16.7.
Curious about something though. Anyone know if the crit rate bonus from TP on crit WS applies to ALL hits of the WS, or is it just applied to the first hit?
Finished with Dragua last night;
Spoiler: show
Finished early this morning

3rd empyrean to 80, 2nd to 85 with my group.. -_- once I'm done with my members Masamune.. gonna go pay Rani & Orthrus a visit and play with the QM feature this game has to offer... sick of being out lotted on that damn mantle.
Get a WHM and duo it? The mantle is a 100% drop, not like its hard.
WHM will outlot him. Repeatedly.
Do it twice... Problem solved!
no I'm sure they'd drop it and lot again.
Go to the zone some night and find a group killing Orthrus for claws. Graciously offer to lot a mantle for them. I was giving those away for free on my way to 90 Twashtar.
finished my Kannagi 85 took about 20 hours to farm guku's (so many 1 skin drops and jp's getting it popping purple :/ lol )
