Imo if you have some money, the best way to get get your souls done is to buy as many T3 pops as you can from shouts. That was by far the hardest part and it takes for god damned ever to change a T1 > T2 > kill T3 especially when you have to fight over T2s (even T1s are a contest sometimes). Oh and it becomes impossible when dick bags with Radar show up ;_; . Most of the time T3s were just up and hanging out because it takes so long to get a pop.

The other trials weren't nearly as hard but I might have gotten lucky with having very little competition for bugard/wyrm and 3 friends who didn't mind grinding them out with me~

Oh, and be weary of our NA population, almost all of them are retards or incredibly stupid, especially the ones who shout in port jeuno all day like they own the place.

A group of like 12 of them showed up at cirein yesterday right after I finished getting 3 pops, and they were taking like 20min+ to kill the damn thing, so I just left -_-

If you really want to get technical, you could just as easily argue that "1 times more" than x would be "x + 1*x" which is equivalent to "twice as many/much". Word problems are a bitch.

Most of my Iron Plates and Horns came from natural linkshell farming over the course of about four months. For the plates, we found that the Giant in Altepa was the least shitty for fighting and had a decent x2 droprate. For the horns, we fought all of the dragons as a larger group (12+ people) in the process to cap everyone off on armor +2 items and the other stuff it drops. The dragon dropped x2 drops about 90% of the time, so it wasn't bad for us at all. There are backtanking lowman stats for it if needed since not everyone has a large group of people to do this. You only need one key item to pop it, and it can come from chests. The mob isn't brew friendly, but they nerfed the dragon if I am reading the update notes right so it isn't that hard to fight the normal way. We usually would just proc grellow and than headbut stun lock it while melee burned it down.

The real problem was the colorless souls. The T2s/T3s don't seem to drop enough good items to convince people to keep farming them for long periods of time. In addition, the T2 --> T3 conversion rate is somewhat crappy and very random. You will have patches where you get three conversions back to back to back, and than patches where nothing happens for 10+ pops. For almost all of my soul farming, I had a small core of people getting T2/T3 pops during NA time while I was working and we would bang them out at night before JP prime. From what we learned, the drop rate on two souls from Ifrit and Diabolos is terrible but one more soul puts you that much closer to finishing. All three T3s can be killed with a solid group of about 4 people or less, it depends on jobs. We had no confirmation either way if TH improved the droprate, so we had a THF there every kill.

With that said, I had finished the first trial, and had almost all of the items for the third trial, and I was only sitting on 11 colorless souls at the time, and that was a few weeks ago. That is how little people want to fight these things normally because popping them is such a huge pain in the ass (and so many NINs need their +2 boots from the T3 in Vunk and people use pops on that). Camping the T2s during JP time absolutely sucked and often wasn't worth it. During NA time, more often than not people are camping the T2s for the body seals they drop, so often we were able to work out deals where we would spawn the T2s for them, proc grellow, and let them have everything just so we could eliminate them as competition. In fact, we even had one group fighting the T2s for seals and we found out they had been disposing of the T3 pops at the NPC that they got because that mob dropped no body seals. Many tears were shed by me that day... As for buying pops, noone ever took us up on offers to buy the souls. Groups were either using them themselves, or had no idea to even save the T3 pops. I don't think anyone actually camps these for money or goes out of their way to save pops looking for buyers. Your millage may vary on that though.

We really pushed to finish this before the update, because competing with the normal Odin crowd was bad enough, I am sure after the merge it will get even worse especially considering there seem to be some weapon collectors on Ifrit with some serious time on their hands. =P

The shield itself is awesome. Blockrate appears to be uncapped even on higher level mobs, you get 5tp even when the mobs hit you for 0, and most importantly it's pretty. Going to be working on getting Almace next, because being a brick is only useful when the mob is looking at you.
