WS wise, stringing pummel MAY BE VERY SLIGHTLY better than VS

but the ODD from VS aftermath easily make vere a better overall weapon

Using both on PUP I would say they're about equal over time, with Smite hitting higher max damage numbers (I see a lot of 6-7k Smites and very few Pummels around that range, maybe due to mods? I'm really bad at FFXI math) and plugging my gear/atmas into Kinematics' PUP XML gives Smite a ~130 damage advantage for Smite over Pummel purely on WS, not counting Aftermath bonuses. For pure epeen numbers seeing Aftermath + AF3+2 proc on a fist for ~1000 damage on a melee round is also cool as shit.

EDIT: Outside of Abyssea, without cruor/atma buffs, Pummel comes out ahead by ~25 damage.

Pummel is 6 hit, which means it can only add 2 extra hits (or 1? I forget how H2H multihits works with "offhand" stuff); Smite can add 4 extra hits (3?)

I always get conflicting answer which is why I'm confused about it. Asking another MNK friend about it, he said it was fairly confident Ascetic's Fury was only 1 hit with no offhand, but that the first hit was counted as the whole TP delay (i.e. you either got a full "two punch" TP return or 0, never the normal amount for one punch).

Thats not true.

H2h Weaponskills that are more then 1hit in description have the number of hits in description.

Smite is 4 hits
Asuran is 8 hits
etc.

H2H Weaponskills that are 1 hit in description or animation are 2 hits ( second from offhand )

Ascetic is 2hits
Howling is 2hits
etc.

Thats why you can see 7-8k Ascetics fury, it can triple attack both fists for 6hits WS for total "fTP" 6.0.
