An example: Acid Bolt's defense down is wind-based. Colibris resist it and Puks are basically immune.

Frightful Roar is also wind-based. So, the add'l effect weapons should also be wind-based. I think this is what everyone's getting at, hopefully that helps illustrate it a bit better.

In other news, done with my gun trials, just need 9 Eyes of Verthandi now...

I know avout the standard elemental associations of various stats/buffs...

Each weather specific trial results in a weapon which boosts atributes associated with that element and the add. effect ones inflict a reduction in that trait on the enemy.

The add. effect are most likely based on the oposite element that you've been trialing to get, but you can't say for certain until it's tested.

That doesn't make all of the additional effect weapons wind-based, only the ones with the additional effect of defense down. If you wanted to continue that line of testing try Demon Arrows, Venom Bolts, Sleep Bolts, and Blind Bolts, on various elementals. I guarantee you that Thunder Elementals will resist Demon Arrows (attack down) and Venom Bolts (Poison), and Dark Elementals will resist Sleep Bolts and Blind Bolts.

We know 6 of the 8 for a fact by transitive laws. The only two stat down effects that are being inferred are Magic Evasion Down and Magic Accuracy Down. Even then, we know for a fact that CHR has light affinity so the inferences are not too far-fetched at all.

Do you know of any rather easy mob that consistently does MACC/MEVA down debuff? Throw Fenrir/Diabolos/Carbuncle at it, and see which one is immune. Amnesia was determined to be a virus/fire effect since Levi and Ifrit are immune.

Ah - meant to say "the add'l effect: Defense Down" weapons - not generalize it.

You people have no idea how hard it is to convince people that every status effect has an element to it, Attack Down, Amnesia, etc...

I'm glad thatits common knowledge here x.x

Terror is apparently earth, weirdly enough. (Based on Jettatura testing with elementals.)

Which means I have /no/ idea why it gets a black (i.e. dark) icon in the blue spell list.

And it's on the shadowlord weapon too. Who isn't at all earth based <_<

I'm not sure if this idea came from the elemental testing but I've heard in the past Terror was some derivative of petrify. What was this elemental testing exactly? Earth and thunder elementals?

Fairly sure I've seen Red Mages resist Terror, which would likely be where the idea that it is related to Petrification comes from.

Titan + dark elementals, actually. (Was tested in a limbus zone where I happened to be BLU).

(Didn't land on Titan, landed on the dark elemental).

This actually makes me want to try to Stona Terror now, as (IIRC) Erase doesn't work.

Edit: For anyone who wants to test this, Gargouilles and Ruszors both do a pretty long lasting terror.

We're all going to feel very stupid if stona works on it.

Terror cannot be removed by any spell, it has to be waited out. Try removing the one Fafnir/Nidhogg uses

    Terror!=Petrify

Ah well. It was a thought. I don't play WHM or SCH, so I've never looked into what can/can't be Stonad (yet).

So with the Wargfangs only working on one hand, should I basically stop going for those? I've finished all the trials except for the 10x Baby Blobdingnag things...

If they're useless next to Destroyers, I'd rather just put my VNM efforts towards the STR (WS) and VIT (Chakra) rings.

Are the Mantis weapons even worth considering at this point?

Has anyone tried reporting this to SE? Maybe Warfangs aren't working as intended?

It seems pretty stupid to me for them to only proc on 1 fist, I mean you my as well go for Faith instead...

Update just now fixed a bunch of broken weapons + Uriel Blade.

Wait, Uriel Blade does actual damage now?

There's actually a few blue magic spells that have status effects that don't normally go along with the element of damage they inflict:

Regurgitation- Water damage, adds Bind (generally ice)
Magnetite Cloud- Earth damage, adds Gravity (generally Wind)
Hecatomb Wave- Wind damage, adds Blindness (generally Dark)
Blastbomb- Fire damage, Bind (generally ice)
Radiant Breath- Light damage, Slow (earth) and Silence (wind)

It's a little different from the example you listed, where the spell is only an enfeeble, with no added damage.

I think what you might be able to draw from that is you can increase the accuracy of the spell and connected enfeeble via matching elemental staff, but the element of the status itself is still going to be its usual associated element (IE Regurgitation's bind and water damage is enhanced by a Water staff, but don't expect to land it on an Ice or Fire elemental).

Has anyone ever tried binding a water elemental with Regurgitation (or something else along those lines)?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe when Mind Blast was released it paralyzed Ice Elementals, but after some update it stopped doing so. I might go try that out after this Campaign Battle.
