Hmm I guess an easier question about the affinity staves would be How much INT/macc/Ele Skill would be equal to the 5% increase of macc from the affinity staff? (assuming that it's 20% as suggested). If anything I can probably tailor it to my ice resist set and get slightly better damage. That said..this is all in theory, and I've yet to test my setups for BLM since I'm not yet 75. ; ;
Shadida, how are you dealing with the increased enmity gain due to that weapon? It's obvious that with /war or /sam, that weapon is insanely lethal and proving to be the strongest gun bar none outside annihilator (working on the D46 magnatus myself, but it looks like I going to hit up dragonmaw soon as well). The only issue I see with it is that it might be TOO strong, and I pull enough hate with the martial gun as is. Any advice, or the standard just know your baseline?
It is becoming more and more apprent to me that I need to think harder on this choice after having done the 100 treants in one day, avoiding all those chigoes in the process (aware of the mire but grauberg is almost constant element and trees everywhere with the occasional person to partner with for a while).
Since SE stated that there will be more BPs, I wonder if Garuda will remain as the best overall physical one later? I can upgrade this then later find out she ends up as the worse. Granted, I may not know this until June or even into 2011 so may as well do one and just wait...?
If not Garuda, then having an even cheaper Fenrir/Diabolos?
Or just wait it out and stick with cure potency +15%... /sigh would like to get all 3 but my patience is going to wear thin after one

Grats Eurekaviii! I'm 1 trial into that gun now, kinda taking it slow this time.Magnatus will be my third actually - my first one was a Dakini for THF with AGI+4 and Evasion+12.
Well, like I said I was using it in Dynamis, so mobs weren't lasting long enough for me to generate a lot of enmity. I'm also hoping to use it in T1 Einherjar later today, which should be the same deal (and boss shouldn't be an issue because of all the 2hr'ing). We will have an Odin run on Thursday, so I'll be able to tell you more about the enmity issue for longer fights after that. I intend to go RNG/WAR which still allows a 5-hit build... I will likely be full-timing my Enmity down gear for TP and using Camouflage whenever it is available during Berserk. I also have 4 Stealth Shot merits, so hopefully those will come in handy. I'm already the last RNG to take hate at Odin despite doing the best damage thanks to my Enmity- tools, but I'll also be sure to bring a Reraise Hairpin with a few charges on it, just in case.
A notion I did get when working on the gun was trying out RNG/DRG for it. Obviously the DRG subjob does not offer any offensive benefit outside of R.atk+10, but the ability to use High Jump to shed 30% of enmity every 3 minutes might (big might here) be enough to keep a RNG far enough away from capped hate that they won't be in constant danger. Couple that with any damage taken from AOE or when you are taking hate, and that could be enough hate loss to stay in the clear. How will it compare to non-OAT RNG/WAR and will it be effective? I'll tell you once I level DRG to 35.
Some more observations:
- After 20-30 Unlimited Shot + Slug Shots, I think I can safely conclude that Unlimited Shot still works properly for the gun. No ammo is consumed when firing, which is a relief for anyone using a Hightail Bullet (don't yet have one personally). I'll still wait for Eurekaviii or someone else to confirm this for the Goshawk before generalizing, though.
- If you Unlimited Shot without using a weapon skill (in my case, I missed the Slug) and you get a double proc, the first ranged attack will not consume ammo but the second one DOES. So don't try anything fancy with your r/e ammo unless you're doing a weapon skill.
- I can now confirm with certainty that Barrage is not affected by the occasionally attacks twice.
We usually parse Einherjar, and we have all our A-list DD's there, so I'll post that later.
So, just to work it out based on our knowledge of game mechanics. RNG/DRG with -50 Enmity needs to do 1400 damage per minute or less (assuming all enmity comes from damage and High jump is used every 3 minutes) to stay below capped CE/VE permanently.
1401 caps in an hour.
1450 caps in 30 minutes.
1500 caps in ~22 minutes.
1600 caps in ~15 minutes.
1700 caps in ~13 minutes.
If you had something that told you your exact enmity you could probably time it a little differently and potentially stretch a minute or so above my estimates, but not much more than that. Also, this assumes you recap enmity with every shot (which probably isn't a bad assumption).
