Final Form Magian Weapons

Say someone has an Occ. Atks Twice Athame that they got because it was the best TP weapon for DNC at the time. Given they aren't a gimp, they put the extra effort into farming VNM items. Now, the occ. atks 2-3 times weapon is clearly the best tp weapon for DNC. Am I interpretting this right in that they would need to start over from peeler to get the good option? Furthermore, given they have different names, if one wanted to dual wield the two.. you would have to throw out your Athame to get the lower DMG Athame for OAThrice, then get a new Athame from scratch as they're rare?

At which point does it branch off? I'm about 30 hyppo kills away from handing in my eyes I had saved up, and the thought of starting over again from a Peeler does not fill me with joy (fuck you, Black Triple Stars). My characters are in the middle of nowhere atm so I can't get to Jeuno to look myself, and I haven't checked new paths yet.

Thanks. I ran one of my characters to Jeuno to have a look at what was required after reading your posts, and well, 600 dragons after 500 Amorphs, 600 Plants, and 400 Peistes? Fuck that. There is only so much grinding I can take and stay sane :/

Honestly, I'll probably try to do it. The 2-3 dagger is more useful than Dancer Mythic, and it'll be a 1-2 dagger for the last two stages (best TP gain except for the 2-3). Although... it's a little intimidating to be sure.

For dragons I'd probably make a sync party and take it to kill Puks. But 1 Puk every 1.5 minutes still leaves me 15 hours of xping on goddamned Puks <_<, and it'll be a lot longer for other monster types solo. Also, the probability that SE will give the other path OAT or give the current path OA2-4 eventually has me a bit worried. Still, a month or two and I'll have it.

I bet Piestes have me in the fetal position with a bottle of rum by kill 100.

Yeah, this is just it. Let's be generous and say I grind the 2.1k mobs out in a month and somehow stay sane/don't quit - great, that means I'll have a pimp dagger for my thf and dnc. But, I'm one of those fools who never expected the level cap to rise, so I have 11 jobs at 75, only one of which I can see myself leaving there. Most of those jobs are melee jobs, so I'll probably be doing Magian quests for those too. Then add on new content, and that I still do older stuff like Salvage, Sea, Dynamis, Einherjar... yeah. I'm already 5/10 on eyes, and don't have drk so can't use them on scythe or something else, so yeah. I just don't have the time/motivation to grind out all those extra mobs when I can complete the VNM path in far less time.

Well for what its worth I did the OAT low dmg sword. The grinding wasnt so bad and I got like 50k xp from grinding easypreys lol... took like 3 weeks and that was off and on.

Working for my OAthrice sword now, 600 Arcana go, then 1 more trial..

And yes i do beleive all these paths are going to be extended... at least I hope my OAThrice sword still looks like a damn cursed sword garbage!

Well, yeah. I've pretty much decided I'm going to get decent gear for all my jobs and keep them up to date, but I'm not going to try to get the new hotness every level cap increase for all the jobs until we're 99. Like, I want to make sure my DNC is as good as it can be. I'll probably do Cure Pot and Ice/Thunder Damage+ staves now that it's obvious they're awesome. But I'll probably try to get the Amnesia Greataxe and call it good enough. As hot as the new Greataxes look, I'll be damned if I want to blow that much time/effort on a weapon when SE is going to change the optimal one to have wasted time on in a few months.

Still, as Thorny pointed out, dumbest thing they did was make them Rare.

I'm personally quite irritated that they added no branching after VNMx10 drops and basically forcing you to buy Abyssea to continue. Some wonderful bait&switch right there. At least the high DMG route has a split, albeit a really shitty one (30 coins from WoE).

Thankfully I only had 1 Ruthven's nail so far. Time to go work on OA23 weapon.

Last I checked magians wasn't a part of the abyssea expansion when it came out so what the fucking hell are you going on about with that bullshit?
I may not be enraged by the using the new expansion but i certainly can see why a person would be annoyed at working on say.. a mythic weapon only for it to turn out that the final upgrade requires the 3 previous shittty miniexpansions to complete it with no prior warning whatsoever.

2x eeks the lead for now. 2-3x is amazing for Footwork though, and you can't own two "Ursine Claws"...so if you want the Footwork weapon, you're better off going for the high +DMG route for everyday h2h use.

I cant put my finger on it but there's just something slightly off on your argument mostly related to the scale and the fact that it took "base" content which you wouldn't have had to pay extra fees for and then out of nowhere says pay 9.99 to proceed further.
I'm sure many of us would be irritated if we randomly found out that salvage,limbus,abj armour required the purchase of an expansion (other than the base ones they hail from) to actually recieve the Ebody/Morrigan's/Homam.
