I've been spamming Krabkatoa path for the last week and I've noticed some strange behaviour out of Capricornus.
Both solos performed at the fence @ East Ronfaure [S] (J-7)
-First time, I popped it in the southwestern corner of East Ronfaure [S]. Normally it gets a swing or two in on the initial /heal, but this one didn't. Curious, I stopped to let it catch up and sure enough, it just stood there without attacking. I walked it the rest of the way and it didn't start attacking until under 40%. It also failed to use Mighty Strikes until 40%.
-Second time, everything about the pull was normal, but it didn't use Mighty Strikes once the entire fight. I'm 100% sure of this, mob 2hrs are unfiltered; kinda hard to miss Recoil Dive spam regardless.
I would normally attribute this to some sort of AI bug from glitching it around the fence, but the majority of the kills I've had were textbook 2HR every 20%. Anyone else had this happen to them?
It happens regardless of the fence. I just assume they pop with different difficulty levels built in, I could be wrong though.
I popped one in the present and it was glitched until 80%.
It didn't attack at all until 80%. When it hit 80%, it didn't use Mighty Strikes but spammed recoil like normal. After that, everything was normal about 60-40-20-15 phases using Mighty Strikes and spamming recoil dive.
I straight tank and haven't used the fence for it.
We've had a couple of Yacumamas and Capricornus that never 2hrd. Not glitched any other way.
Let dot tick 80>79% at 25 distance and it doesnt 2h. True story. Happened about 10 pugils ago to me, noticed where it was vs its hp when it never 2h'd. Have repeated it 3 times, but becareful it doesnt just depop if youre "spinning" it with just bio on 25 away on the fence, have had to chase a few down and repop b/c of this. The depop rate is kinda high when doing this, and all you have to do is hug fence > take 5 steps back > repeat to completely null its 2h anyway, so meh.
Capri and Yacu can pop with a minimum time before they start 2hring. Whether this is a glitch or intended, who knows, but it won't pick up 2hr until the first time it hits 19/39/59/79 after time is elapsed. When I 2box capri with RDM RDM it dies in like 4 minutes, over the course of about 70 of them i've gotten ~25 'glitched' ones and the only glitched ones that 2hred later were the soloed ones that dragged out to 10 min or so. I've never seen it refuse to melee, but I'm also not gimp enough to need to pin it so that might be related.
The object of killing these mobs is to get Blue Abyssite, so faster kills = more pops, right? If you pin it you can use /SCH and cut your killspeed almost in half. It has nothing to do with being gimp; work smarter not harder, etc.but I'm also not gimp enough to need to pin it so that might be related.
My limiting factor on kills is just MP. I cannot kill these on full taru MP + 1 vert so I have to wait out 8:30 for a 2nd vert. It usually dies right after 2nd vert. I'm not sure how you're doing Capricornus differently that allows you to do this solo faster straight tanking simply because I don't see another form of DD, even if you evaded 100% of its attacks. The only way you can speed this up to me is to melee, sub /SCH, or just have better nuking gear. The ladder has nothing to do with safety of straight tank vs. pin though.
I'm not going to tell anyone to do it the way I like to do it if they got their own method, but I just have a hard time believing this. Now if you're duoing then yea you should have double MP resources and your optimal strategy may change. Not trying to call you out or anything but if you have a way to solo this on 1 convert I'd love to try to add onto said strategy.
I use joyeuse + enspells and allow spellcast to swap staves for nukes, acc is decent with sushi and it doesn't seem to use recoil dive very often as a normal tp move. Aqua ball is harmless and intimidate does nothing because you should have your composured haste still on. How my nuking gear compares to Kaeko's idk, but it's certainly not bad.

No morri legs, fail/etc. As far as straight tanking vs pinning, the main difference is time spent pulling it(as I mentioned before). I haven't actually timed my kills, so may be off by a tiny bit, but I usually still have my composured stoneskin when it dies so I'm not spending any extra mp aside from slow2 and barwater in my composure cycle. I'll take a look at logs later, but it's usually 1-2 nukes after second convert for me with no pull time. Figure 8:20 + about 80 secs to use initial mp pool alternating bliz/thunder + 2 nukes afterwards.. maybe it's closer to 11-12 minutes.
Maybe I'm biased because I personally find pinning to be an irritating cop-out for mobs in general though, SE keeps adding new stuff and RDM keeps soloing the same way. I like solos that require planning, gear, and effort.. running in circles(or sidestepping back and forth) is boring and stupid and shouldn't have been allowed to go on anywhere near as long as it has.
I never considered melee because accuracy seemed to be less than 50% with Sushi. Guess it'd be worth a shot if VNM wasn't so frustrating.
Personally 1/a shitfuckington on rings(Veela) and got title same kill. I haven't gotten any other titles. Does anyone have an actual screenshot to disprove the ring=title thing(get a ring drop and ss your title at least 30 seconds later in menu)? I know a few people arbitrarily denied it, but I see a lot of reports of ring+title both ingame and on here.
We got title on first Verthandi, have yet to see a Veela Ring. Though we did get the Gem that kill. We got Ruthven title on ring drop but not on Marching Belt drop. Cant just say you get the title if one of the two drops, I've had that not happen.
Perhaps the same conditions that allow title allow ring/equipment drop then? I know I'm 0/17 on krab title/ring/helm now, with a handful of other VNM kills that also didn't drop. Granted the droprate is shit to begin with, it's still irritating to see nothing for that long and the titles make it seem like there's some sort of trick involved.
