As long as your DD know when to attack Yilbegan for maximum damage the zones don't really matter. Some (S) zones that could have some roaming agro but that is a whole other thing.

"no" agro (S) zones are nice if you need the little sigil refresh boost.

T4 dragon I keep hearing the term back tanking, I may be a little slow understanding this, is this with back to the mob, or behind the mob. And does anyone have a preference for PLD/???.

You tank behind the mob, but really most will position themselves right behind one of its' rear legs in order to evade dancing tail.

Personally, I prefer PLD/RDM, but to each his own.

    Shadow in East Ronfaure present.
Pretty gay for pinning but the fence near the Sandy zone worked ok.

I did PLD/BLU with my co-tank for our first two Yilbegans but then for the second two I switched to PLD/WAR (my co-tank tried PLD/RDM). I really think PLD/WAR works out better, though I will say that since he can cast Dispel, having Cocoon on a faster timer is nice. As you said, to each his own, but I like the extra JAs.

I'm by all means not stellar at Rdm, but in the absence of any info I've yet to find, I wanted to post about what I feel is a very solid location for soloing Erebus and Feuerunke in Beaucedine Glacier.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...dineVNMs01.png

G-9, bottom of the ramp by the Nue tower. Just personal anecdote, but I've frequently had the mobs pop quite near this spot. Per what others have said on pulling these, I'd advise powder boots. Just one pair for Erebus (to avoid possible graviga) and as many as necessary for Feuerunke as it hits hard and fast and is quite nimble on its toes.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...dineVNMs02.png

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...dineVNMs03.png

If you hide behind this wall, it acts as a very strong pinning location. It makes Erebus a cinch. Erebus fight time is about 20-30 minutes even if you don't tier3 it, similar to Xarc. But Feue' is a solid hour on poison2 and bio3 alone.

For Erebus, you want to do the usual strategy of sticking it into fire mode and avoiding -ga'3 at all costs. You can't always avoid it, so an MDB set is also a must. Wait until it's safe to cast spells. Sometimes its best not to even stop to put up a shadow until you see it start to cast. If you're at the pin spot you have maybe 10-15 seconds of safety after it has tried to cast something. That's about the time it takes you to kite it to one side of the rock, the other, and then back again. At that time, you want to be careful w/ panning your camera so you can run away quickly from a -ga. Start to wait for that -ga and cast nothing else. Try to move yourself into a good location behind the rock as if you're anticipating it. If you're on the west side, you can run to this patch of rocks to the west. He also paths poorly around them so you have time to put up shadows there or w/e. If you're on the east side when he begins to cast, you can either run up the ramp, or run staight east to another patch of rocks he paths poorly around. You have to hug the wall really well at these rocks (think Attowha Chasm mountain) or you'll just get stuck on one side unable to cross.

For Feuerunke, if anyone's used to fighting it at the Xarcabard location (referred to in Kaeko's blog), they'll know that shadows aren't very important. However at this spot they are. The rock is far to small and Feue' far too fast for you to risk not having shadows. If you want to do anything other than cast bio and poison when it's not casting slowga on you, you're at very high risk of having it strike you. Even if you're not casting, you're going to be moving so much and the fight is so long that your camera could fuck up for a second, and if that happens you're at high risk of getting hit, and he hits hard.

You don't really have much leeway to cast tier3 spells often, and it seems like he builds resistance quickly. I've heard others remark of him 'raging' at 20-30 minutes. This seemed so to me at least. After about that amount of time, 9/10 nukes were resisted. Poison2 would sometimes take 6-10+ attempts to land. Hence the long and horribly boring fight. I would absolutely recommend just spamming poison until it lands. You can kite to one side, cast, kite to the other and back and cast again just seconds later. For 2hr I would recommend not casting anything, even shadows, and just pinning him as close to the middle of the other side as often as possible.

I should say that for these fights I used the ever wonderful filling of the mode plugin from windower. I think Feue' would be harder without it, now that I think about it. Erebus shouldn't be as much of a prob. There's also another spot in the zone that appears to be really solid and consistent, that I'm gonna try some solo's out right now. Did a 4-man yesterday at the location. The spot is at the east side of H-8, just at the top of the ramp. And it's definitely stronger than the location I mapped here; pin spot is bigger, and it also has two other rocks east and west of the pin spot you can temporarily run to. I just haven't taken pictures or solo'd there yet. Kudos to Steam on Asura for pointing out both locations, cuz I'm a nab and wouldn't've otherwise known a good rock when I saw it.

someone posted a log that you could run under in beau, think J-6? 2-3 pages back in the random Q thread. never got around to checking it out personally, but if you're too busy to wait for xarc repops as you seem to be, you should maybe check it out.

Haven't tried it but I'll keep it in mind. Just did Feuerunke the rocks at the top of the ramp at H-8. Was much easier than the bottom of the ramp at G-9, and I didn't stoop to using windower plugins this time. So with those two and the arch at J-6 that you mention, there's a lot of good terrain in Beaucedine to make solo's a cinch. Though the terrain in Xarc is truly a thing of beauty.

Also, this Feuerunke didn't resist a thing, even after 20 or 30 min. I've been away from the game for two months so I don't know if a consensus has been reached, but after hearing all the various accounts from the different VNM's, there has absolutely got to be some sort of funky strong/weak thing going on. Best example I can think of would be the VNM pugil on the Sandy path. Sometimes you fight it and it doesn't 2hr at all, sometimes it gets stuck 2hr'ing literally every 10 seconds.

To each their own. I personally draw a large distinction between taking advantage of (easily) correctable, known faults lain by another, and direct violations of mutually known, clear, established rules based on an issue which is not reasonably correctable. Don't know a better way to phrase that. IE, I feel there is a large moral difference between the salvage glitch and, say, fish botting. My personal view and it doesn't matter if that of others differ, since one's taste for morality is as subjective as one's taste in music. I've made 2 relics worth of gil using game exploits, but I try to challenge myself in game and use crutches as little as possible. I could dual box my fights, but I would prefer to learn to be better at solo and feel as legit as possible. Same with windower. And if I find myself able to solo something without pinning it, I would much prefer to do that instead.

Due to repop timers and shit conversion rate I can't say for certain all these were required, but we're 100% on shadow krabs with them all. I know that last condition seems a little off compared to the other two (normal requirements for an actual shadow) but the 4th krab we popped did not have a shadow, and at least 1 T2 mob was still up in the zone.
I read further about the weather part of this theory thrown out the window, however I've yet to see/read/hear about any further tests/proof about killing both T2's in the zone where you pop said T3 in and I'm highly interested in knowing more.

P.S. I skimmed thru several pages and can't really find a solid strat for Orcus setup. I know gravity horn is a bitch, but can be sidestepped to mitigate damage. I tried tanking as PLD/BLU as recommended, made macro sets to re-equip all my gear , etc. Just seemed like we weren't doing enough damage, even with SMN bloodpacts (we were somewhat low-manned, both attempts we only had 10-12 people). Any advice/info would be helpful thanks.

I've only tried orcus twice and we lost both times, but I have no idea how you could not do enough damage with 10 people. We were fighting him with 6 and we were doing fine damage wise. All our damage was from two pld/blus in turtle gear and a thf, and we still got him down below half pretty quickly. Ended up losing both times due to hate being reset too quickly, and it went after the healers. I think pld/blu, pld/blu, sch, rdm/drk, brd, whm for the tank party and a couple blu/thfs to sata cannonballs while staying out of aoe range would be more than enough to make it an easy fight. Have the brd swap parties to minne the blus.

And this is what happened to us as well. First attempt we got it to 13%, 2nd attempt we actually had more people & and extra PLD for when hate was reset & lost at like 65% cuz he did Gravity Horn like 4 times in a row.

Yeah, those attempts were pld, pld, brd, rdm, sch, thf. Adding a whm to do the big healing will both slow the rdm and sch's enmity gain, and let the rdm concentrate more on stunning horn. Combine that with a pair of blu/thfs to help replace enmity on the pld who got hit with horn, and you should be good.

This didn't work for Lord Ruthven. Killed both T2 and the second one upgraded me to purple. Went after LR immediately and popped with no shadow.

I don't have any solid proof that the first one hadn't repopped (I was upgraded to purple) but Erebus(2nd) was only a 30 minute kill so not enough time for Feue(1st) to repop.

Like most SE rules it comes down to a case by case basis.

Using terrain in an alliance to beat DI is considered safe but something like pinning comes down to w/e GM decides to show up and make a judgment.
