I don't see why there'd be suspicions of photoshopping and made-up news stories. It seems a rather meh story to make up, anyways. I don't doubt it's real, and the reason the tabloid picked it up is because no one really cares. Just like what celebrity is banging who, or how to lose 10 pounds in 10 days.

And I also don't think that random growths/tumors/warts or other afflictions count as evolution, unless such a thing was genetically predetermined. She had kids long before the sun baked her skin enough to create those.

It actually could support evolution. Genes that were once used go dormant but still exist in DNA. This could be a case of some random genes reactivating by mistake and causing that growth to occur. It's been proven that dormant genes can be reactivated via chickens (i.e. causing chickens to grow scales instead of feathers and other such things...)
