You can beat the game without grinding. It's more challenging/fun that way anyhow. Just go back after you beat it.

I would finish the game now and then go back. The game is very well balanced for you to simply fight as you progress the story with no grinding. Besides you will have plenty of grinding if you plan to max everything out. Why grind now for piddly amounts of CP when later you can be earning 80k/fight.
Back in Eden, right before you enter... that one building, there's two chests, and as soon as you pick one, a turtle comes and stomps the floor, losing the other chest. I ended up picking the worse item I believe. What did I miss out on?
One has like 6x Particle Accelerator, and the other one is Plush chocobo. You don't have to open them now, can actually kill the turtle later and then you'll be able open both of them.
Oh holy shit, it just occurred to me...
If you don't open them, you'll have a turtle *MUCH* closer to the entrance when you want to farm.
Damn, wish I thought of that sooner, that's worth way more than 30k >.>
So I can't seem to remember, at what point do turtles evolve?
Basically, can I get my 2nd genjii without evolving them?
Once you finish the Ring of Missions in East Tors and re-zone (I believe) the Shaolong Gui and Long Gui will appear. At that point the only Adamantoise left will be in Eden.
Oh, the one in Eden doesn't change?
No the one in eden stays the same, and there is still an adaman that wonders in GP near the Northern Plains once you have poped the shao long and the long gui's, I dunno why people keep saying they all go away in GP, but one still is there.
Really? I have spawned all the Shaolong/Long Gui's and I don't recall seeing an Adamantoise still wandering around. I am not doubting you, I haven't been around Archlyte Steppe since most of my missions are done; I just don't want to keep telling people there is only an Adamantoise in Eden if there is indeed another one around.
anyone know a surefire way to 5* M51 & M64? 5/6 roles capped and ultimate weapons available for everyone but hope+snow, etc. etc.
first attempts on each took upwards of 20mins and only got 3-4 stars. both fights were unbelievably tedious, i want to finish them off for good, but i'm really apprehensive about risking another 20+mins per fight on a sub-optimal ranking D:
also, is plat farming off turtles really the fastest gil farming method? i get maybe 3/hr with catalog if i'm exceptionally lucky.

Mission guide, with videos of each fight, adjust as needed.
Pretty much. The best spot imo is the place with the two Tortoises guarding the 3 kids. There's a savepoint nearby so it's easy to load/save as needed. With the catalog you should be seeing quite alot of ingots, just keep at it.also, is plat farming off turtles really the fastest gil farming method? i get maybe 3/hr with catalog if i'm exceptionally lucky.
I thought Eden was faster, but I hate saving/reloading, it really breaks my flow and kills whatever mood I'm in (especially for grinding).
I can't help with M64 because I got lucky and 5* it the first time I fought it. As for M51 this is the strat I used. I am not at home so I can't confirm the gear I used but I know Fang has Kain's Lance*, Kaiser Knuckle*, Genji Glove Lv. 1, Gold Watch. Light had a Kaiser Knuckle*, Genji Glove, Omega Weapon
Used Fang/Light/Snow.
Give Snow resist physical gear (I have him the Champion's Belt, and a couple General's Belts)
Started off in SYN/SYN/SYN. Get buffs up fast and then change to SAB/SAB/SAB and get debuffs up on him(mostly deprotect and slow, the rest is bonus), switch to RAV/RAV/RAV until his chain gauge is around 350-400. Switch to COM/COM/COM and pound away. When his slow drops, quickly jump to SAB/SAB/SAB to keep deprotect and slow on him.
When he takes out his 2nd sword, switch to COM/COM/SEN. Snow should be able to take all the hits and mediguard himself for more than Attacus smacks him for. Keep that up and swap to COM/COM/COM if you want here and there.
Battle wasn't too hard, I might have switched to a healing paradigm once, (MED/MED/SEN) but I can't remember. Snow did a pretty good job tanking solo. I beat the mission in 9min and change, and I believe my Par Time was set at 14 min or so.
First off, don't forget to equip the gold watch you got the first time you killed him.
Secondly, ditch any drop + etc equips, and don't bother with instant chain, it won't proc. Just max out str on light or whoever your 2nd com is, str + genji for highwind on fang, and magic + gold watch on hope or vanille.
Use aegisol/fortisol (to save time, not because you really need them).
Deck:
SAB/SAB/SAB
RAV/RAV/RAV
SYN/SYN/SYN
MED/MED/MED
SEN/SEN/SEN
COM/COM/COM
Yes, that's right, you're going with 1 triple setup of each job.
Enter as triple sab, you'll be fully buffed so you can skip your triple syn phase for a while. Debuff asap.
Swap to triple rav, try to get it staggered.
The instant it's staggered, go to triple com, let your other 2 get an attack round in, and highwind. It's going to do barrier within a few seconds of the stagger every time.
As soon as barrier goes up, jump into tri-med to heal up, and this is where you'll be using the triple syn when your buffs start wearing, too.
As soon as barrier drops again, be back in triple sab.
Rinse and repeat.
Whenever you see him start casting Whirl, jump into triple sen IMMEDIATELY.
Your goal is to *never* have to heal outside of jumping to triple med for a couple seconds each time he does barrier. If he's damage-able, you need to be dealing damage, period.
Do you know the "square" of turtle farmig in Steppe?
There's 1 adamantoise right by the central save, 1 adamantoise by the east wall south of stone circle, and one adamantortoise in each of the pathways leading down to the little turle area (where the cactuar cutscene is).
After you change them, the 2 tortoise and the far eastern toise become Long Gui, and all the Adamanchelid become Shaolong Gui.
The one right by the center save point stays an Adamantoise.
I make a U.
There's a save point by the northwestern Tortoise, and another by the southwestern Toise.
Kill tortoise, then the other tortoise, then the eastern toise, then the central toise. Reset at that save station, loop back in opposite order, end up at the save station you're referring to, and reset there.
Gets 4 turtles per loop, each loop takes me like 10-15 mins depending on luck.
Of course that's an entirely different story when they evolve heh.
I'm actually stuck right now, I can't decide what to do. I made a separate save in case guis were too much for me. I can kill them, but it's way too hard to be worth it. (And shaolongs are fucktardedly hard).
So, I want to go back to the other save but... of course... my luck... the first long gui I killed dropped a trap lol.
Anyone know where I can find/get more clay rings? I only have 2 on me and dunno if I had sold one before. The only way to get an extra one is to dismantle an earth charm, but wouldn't that mess up my chances of getting the plat throphy?
