So I was too busy with the Dota 2 tournament that I forgot about the LoL one so I went to go check the match results and I found this to be pretty funny.

Closing up the last of Round 2 was Team SoloMid and Team ALTERNATE in a very evenly paced and matched game. While ALTERNATE is no stranger to conservative actions during the laning phase, it seemed out of character for TSM, who bided their time with diligent farming, jungling, and pushing before finding the opportunity to stage a gank at the 10:00 mark.

The 3 wriggles thing TSM has been doing is interesting, but I don't look forward to every carry only idiot trying it without understanding the point.

I think because of the fact that Alternate was known to be the underdogs and actually had a few quality moments. Basically TSM built 3 wriggles, bossed dragon and kept forcing Alternate to respect the fact that they could do Baron from 20+ onwards and kept forcing them into 2 awful choices: Let TSM take Baron unhindered or get into a team fight that TSM feels very confident about winning. Despite the scoreline, I felt Forellen actually played well under the immense pressure Regi was putting out and actually was a fun player to watch, and I feel that TSM respected the fact that he could still be a threat.

Udyr vs Gragas top was never going to go Gragas' way and I was quite suprised that in the Millenium vs TSM match that followed, Millenium opted to ban a potential TheRainMan Singed pick but left Udyr on the table. He had very very successful games as Udyr in todays group matches.

The triple wriggle's wasn't specific to that match-up though. They did it earlier as well. The quick/easy dragons seem to be a big part of their gameplan for this tourney(free wards don't hurt either).

I watched a few of those games(first time watching competitive LoL). Do these guys have a few select champs they play?

And do the casters make mention of the runes/masteries they pick before the game starts? I always missed the beginnings/loading screen and I heard they take 3minutes before each game to select runes/masteries on their characters.

Also, do the casters ever say anything important? They literally just give a play-by-play of what's going on. "annie just used her tibber- oh! she missed; orianna got away with a flash, any slower and she would have been stunned" no shit, everyone's watching the same screen you are..
Is one of them a loud-mouth who doesn't actually play and is just a "professional caster" while the guy not controlling the camera is an actual player? ie, shoutcaster + analytical dynamic? But that other guy didn't input much into the games I watched besides keeping track of dragon's respawn..

The problem with the casters is that they have no "professional input". They can tell you what's going on but because they aren't actual pro players or even near a pro the commentary is usually dull and very boring. IMO they should have TreeEskimo or even Phreak do the commentating, Roku would be nice also.

Also, it's more dependent on what's hot at the moment. Most pros will usually adapt and start learning how to play the stronger champs when others get nerfed. And I doubt they mention masteries/runes.

Playing and talking is alot harder than watching and talking. He would probably do a good job commentating tournaments.

I don't disagree with you, but I have to add that while he is humble he's not commentator material. He is a great player, but he is quite boring. Even he says so himself. /shrug

Yeah, sadly analytical commentary is pretty non-existent in LoL from what I've seen. It's all just play-by-play with some commentary about the current metagame without talking about why the meta is in that state. I've been watching most games muted.

I think I've been spoiled by SC2 where everything is commentated by either Day[9] or Artosis who are both former pros with a deep understanding of strategy and decision-making as well as the current state of the game and popular builds. Also, the SC2 community is more tightly knit with much of it's content-producers(players, commentators, streamers, etc) having bonded over 10 years of SC1, so commentators will often be able to give insight into not only what a pro would be thinking in a situation, but what that particular player is probably thinking.

I like the British guys when they do the commentating. They are much better than anyone else I've seen, such as the North Americans at Dreamhack. They stay focused on the game and don't randomly wander off topic onto some other Riot thing.
