Just downloaded LoL last night. What do I need to know about Runes. Is it complicated as it looks or is there some kind of rather easily understandable way to deal with them?

You don't really need to worry about runes until lv20, spending on runes before that doesn't do such a huge difference (I'm 19 with no runes at all and can hold my own against normal lv30 players). After that you will know what type of hero fits you, so you just go find a guide on the hero and follow it for the runes. If you wanna play a few tonight PM me, name is HarveyMomBanger.

I'm not always keen on just feeding people links but LoL's wikia explains it pretty well I thought:

Try and choose a champion(edit: this is a little vague; I mean at level 20 when you start buying tier 3 runes you'll more than likely have some favorite champs in mind) that has a rune page that's usable by 30% of other champs. What I'm saying is, don't pick someone like ryze who wants mana runes because they're useless on everyone else - or a jax/yorick who wants AD runes while other AD champs want armor pen.

I think the typical runes that would cover most AD champs and most AP champs would be: armor pen and magic pen reds. dodge or mp/5 yellow. magic resist per level or cooldown blues. armor pen or magic pen quints - although I've seen a lot of top players advocate flat AD/AP in those slots; fuck if I know what's marginally better, I bought flat AP quints for casters and I'm not going back to buy magic pen quints for a LONG time. Maybe toss in movespeed quints since they're kind of useful on everyone and a must for the best motherfucker in league of legends: singed.

You can always buy flat Armor Yellows/Flat MR blues at level 20. Those runes work on any hero for any page.

An older post of mine regarding runes, here is a quick summary.

    ~Reds~
    Desolation (Armor Pent) -- 3690
    Insight (Magic Pent) -- 3690

    ~Yellows~
    Clarity (MP5) -- 1845
    Resilence (Flat Armor) -- 1845

    ~Blues~
    Warding (Flat MR) -- 1845
    Focus (CDR) -- 7380*

    ~Quints~
    Fortitude (Flat HP) -- 6150

Total: 19,065 IP (If you don't buy CDR) or 26,445 IP* (With CDR included)

The reason I put both prices is that flat CDR is very expensive but very good on many champions. I'd focus on CDR later unless you have the IP to burn.
Your quints can vary but I'd go for HP when you aren't sure. As said above get the ones post level 20 (tier 3).

These runes will overall work for any champion.

More questions: What are some noob-friendly champs? I tried Ashe and Miss Fortune, so far.

ashe and MF are not so 'noob friendly' as they're pretty crazy squishy (especially ashe, my god 2 crits from some champs at level 1 and it's free first blood).

easy champs would be garen, dr mundo, most of the tanks (alistair, rammus, amumu, singed), generally beefier characters are easier to start with, practice last hitting minions (when minions are real low on life you get the last hit and only the last hit so you get the money, easier with ranged characters than melee characters but the concept is the same for both). just kind of figure out what type of playstyle you like really, a few of my friends love the glass cannon characters like ashe/miss fortune/caitlyn/graves but i usually like tank characters, just sort of figure out what kind of playstyle you like best and then start finding characters you like and just stick with them a few games. once you know the general gameplay flow and start seeing the patterns of movement that people usually take throughout a map it's easier to play squishier characters and figure out when to stick around for team fights and when to leave because you'll be target #1 (or should be, don't attack tanks if you can help it, squishier characters first always!)

These. They're cheap and good beginner champs (even in advanced play they're still really good). Try out the free champs they have each week too, they change them every Tuesday.

Caitlyn is really easy and fun to play and if you're laning with someone who can take some damage you'll be able to outpoke/out last hit/dominate your lane. So many times people let me just farm creeps to their demise and it's crazy how quick she can take down a tower

I'd have to 2nd that. I had a Yi Alpha Strike my Ashe, and I barely had time to register what happened before I died. They're also horrible when you need to roam around the map, because if anybody gets the jump on you, you're dead.

The tanks are definitely more forgiving, though you may have trouble getting gold because it's hard to last hit vs a ranged lane opponent. I only recently started as well, but are there any tanks with ranged normal attacks?

Almost all the 450 champs are really easy to pick up and play, you can start there. The roles are pretty varied so it should also cover every role in the game (with the exception of Tank I believe) so you can find a favorite role to play and start learning from champions from there.

    Summoners!

Not too long ago we mentioned we’d be making some changes to ranked pre-made queues. We’ve got a brand new feature to share with you: Ranked teams! In the place of arranged 3v3 and 5v5 team matchmaking will be a system in which you can create a permanent, named group to take to the Fields of Justice! When Season Two kicks off, you and your friends can band together under a unified identity with one name, tag and Elo rating.

Ranked teams will allow you to easily organize your teams and track their progress. Each ranked team will have a captain who has the power to invite or remove members. You can then queue for a 5v5 or 3v3 ranked game as a team with any five (or three, on Twisted Treeline) members of your team. As your teams play together, their Elo rating will be calculated by how well your teams perform, independent of individual ratings.

Ranked teams truly are a measure of you and your friends’ ability to work together in a competitive environment; and you may belong to multiple teams, each with its own Elo rating. You’ll be able to see how you measure up against the pros, and maybe even compete against them. As we mentioned in our Season Two Pre-Season announcement, we’re going to clear pre-made ratings so you can get a fresh start and a more accurate read of your team’s prowess.

None of these changes will affect normal play or ranked solo queue. Solo queue, however, will be renamed to “Solo/Duo Queue.” Rest assured, ratings will not be reset when this takes place.

We’ll have more information for you as we draw closer to Season Two’s launch, so stay tuned!

I'd be down probably. I mainly play solo top, but I can play ranged AD at least somewhat competently.
