Who was she laning against? Some matchups are easier than others, and the enemy top feeding against a champ like Diana they probably never laned against before wouldn't be that surprising.

I think it was another Diana, though the Fiddles was sort of jungling/sort of laning with her. Fiddles went 9-12, enemy Diana 12-13 by the end.
Omg changing Kat again! They removed Killer Instincts, which stinks for bouncing blades, but gave her MOAR damage options and automatic damage reduction from Shunpo.
Her model is an improvement, they need to un-ugly a lot more female champs.
Either way, Kat is my favorite AP mid and I'm excited to try out Sinister Steel, possibly even removing my movespeed quints from her(probably not though lol). Wonder how Scarra will feel about the removal of bonus gold and Killer Instincts on BB.

Can I get a couple of "must-have" champs, preferably ones I should know how to play (not just OP champs) and are cheap.
Right now, I have Gangplank, Ashe, Fizz, Alistar and Tristana.
Other champs I like are Graves and Skarner. I also play Sivir decently.
If you're ready to start jungling, Skarner is really great. His ganks aren't the easiest for new players, but, like alistar, once you figure out what the champ can do (i.e run through towers), you can literally do the same ganks every game and PROBABLY succeed. He can also farm for as long as you like, great for those games where you can't gank.
I do feel like you should look into a ranged or hard cc AP mid like ryze or annie. Pretty cheap, do very well, and has options Fizz won't. Like, if your jungle is shyvana, you may have a better chance at ganking mid with their cc versus baiting your enemy with fizz.
Some of the BGers have awesome top Olafs, J4's, and Malphites. They could tell you more about them than me. All 3 can carry and all cost 4800 and less.
Lost gold(shocker). 3 Games in a row and 3 throws in a row. Team would dive 3v5 past one tower into another. Did stupid engagements 3 times when we weren't all there. Got the same ranged AD 2x in a row that sucked. FUUUUU
Ok, Skarner is a definite then. I feel like I have watched enough games about jungling that I can at least fake it for now. For Skarner, should I go Flash or Ghost?
Ryze is interesting. I really prefer AP over AD in general. He was just free last week, so it might be a while before he is up again. I have some free IP sitting around but I am still only level 22 and only have one AP page right now.
I don't know that there's such a thing as a must-have champ. Riot has done a good job of making most champs viable at low-mid levels of skill and even at the highest levels there are still lots and lots of options.
If you're just looking to expand your repertoire, I would recommend first following Hiryo's advice about an AP mid with hard CC. Annie is a great choice if you don't have much mid experience. For most people I know she was sort of baby's first mid.
Secondly, pick-up a top-lane. Unfortunately most of the really good ones are 6300, but there are still good options at 4800 and under. I'd recommend Shen. He's really strong, really safe and he brings great utility to your team. If you want more damage though(and I'm guessing you do since I see 3 AD carries in your list), go with Jarvan. He's a bit tougher mechanically but he's also generally pretty safe and has strong initiate potential if you build him tanky.
Buy all of the 450s; they're cheap and having them all gives you all of the roles in the game. Gives you a good idea of what you like and what you don't. Also, having extra champs is good for draft later on when you may have to rotate with people.
Hmm, these Katarina changes~ interesting
I hate fighting her 1v1 mid, so I'm not looking forward to her being flavor of the month again.
shes easy to deal with though, just not in a blind pick. one cc of sort just fucks her ult
Kat does sort of force you to fight a certain way though if your team is light on interrupts. If she's the only real threat then yeah, you can just lock her down, but if there are multiple threats you still have to hold back a CC just for her which means you aren't using it to peel for your carry or pick off theirs. Her new W also might make her a threat outside of Death Lotus.
look who i found in the 1500s, sucking it up as vayne. (only WoW players would really know who this is)
Spoiler: show
was that guy actually on LgN or is he a fuckin poser
If a lgn player was in the 1500s, that would be a smurf and I doubt you'd put your team name on a smurf. Safe to say that's just some pathetic guy.
You would think you would be good at LoL if you're that good at wow. Isn't he like R1 rogue?
Top: Anything really. But if you want easy mode; top champs are Udyr, Nidalee, Chogath, Warwick. Tons of sustain and tanky.
Mid: Only real AP mid I recommend knowing is Morgana.
Jungle: Udyr, Maokai, Naut
Bot lane: Someone with ranged attack?
Support: Raka, Taric, Janna
I would say that nearly every champ in the game is viable. There is only one thing I can think of that pisses me off when making a team though; Lack of CC. Once you get past lane phase an Ez, Soraka, GP jungle, Fiora, Ziggs team is terrible.
Don't underestimate Ezreal's attack speed down. But, yes, you need others to have hard CC if you have someone like Ezreal or Fiora on your team.
...And I'm tired of having games where I'm doing really well and then suddenly one person makes a mistake and the entire game is lost that instant.
