    laptop - CPU P-states

I'm having trouble with my laptop, it's a Dell Vostro 1500 with a Core2Duo 1.8ghz. If I turn off speedstep in the BIOS, it sticks the CPU freq at 1.2ghz without going up or down, even though the max is 1.8. This isn't normally a problem, but right now, the CPU seems to be stuck at 600mhz, severely lagging down ffxi. Even though it's been on for about an hour or two, it hasn't gone from the idle P-state to active or w/e the lingo is.

Should I just leave speedstep off or is there a program I can get to modify this somehow? I like it to powerdown when I'm doing small stuff on the laptop so it doesn't overheat, but the cpu doesn't seem to want to change states any. The last time I checked last week, the cpu speed jumped around fine like it's supposed to. My dad's HP laptop does something similar, is always stuck at 800mhz, but I think I determined that the cpu was damaged from the gpu chip overheating.

Why did you turn off speedstep in the first place, there's really no reason to turn it off.

Go here and search for speedstep, or even the model laptop you have.

this is where i go for my p7811. although im pretty sure that you should re-enable speedstep and then go through the undervolting process for your CPU. You would use the same program to disable the lower p-states and run at max performance all the time. so you might as well drop the temp of the CPU while youre there

I'd rather not run at a laggy 600mhz while playing FFXI. For some reason, my laptop isn't kicking into a higher gear when it's "needed"
