It's a very typical reaction. Most families are upset due to the typical expectations placed on young people. You want to see your children/siblings be 'successful' and them having a child early on makes this more difficult. I've known people in this exact situation. The ones who who worked through it with their families are now the most happy people that I know. Both parents have continued their education and careers, albeit at a slower pace, but they have a beautiful family now that I adore. This is truly better than any career I can imagine. I've had other friends who didn't apply themselves and just sort of made their parents 'deal' with it while they fucked around more. Those people didn't really go anywhere and it was clearly a very bad thing for them (mom never married, had more kids with other guys too...) The fact that they are getting married sounds like they're willing to work through it and continue improving their lives.

Honestly, it sounds like your parents just needs to face reality. There is a child coming, nothing can change that. There isn't really a point to being upset anymore. Tell them to stop being such judgmental assholes and be more supportive. They now have the opportunity to be grandparents and this has the potential to enrich the life of their son far more than they can see. They are getting married so they're taking the first steps in the right direction.

I'm sure that they'll come around anyways, again this is a very typical reaction.

This proves the general trend of the greater your education, the more likely you are to postpone parenthood.

18 year old football captain and cheerleading captain will have at least 3 kids together by the time they are 25. The two married professionals who both have at least a master's degree will have no children until they are 38 or so, when they start "trying to get pregnant."

Just an observation. It's good to be there for your brother. No matter how you feel about the decisions he makes in life, he's still family, and while I don't have a brother, I do have two sisters. If the unmarried one got pregnant, I would support her no matter what-if she was going to stay with the father or raise the child as a single mother.

I do kind of agree that some women probably do trap men in relationships with pregnancies, planned or unplanned. Note: I'm not saying all women do this, and the ones that usually do have bigger issues to deal with, where they probably shouldn't be procreating in the first place until they're resolved.

Typical example of government waste. You don't need to spend ~$900 billion on a couple of coathangers and some alcohol swabs to sanitize them between uses.

Yeah, this guy is correct. At least these two have their masters and can afford to care for a downs kid.

Not saying you need a college education to have kids, but you should have to take some kind of test; good luck to them, and it sounds like a good thing if they are happy about it.

Parents should be happy when their kids are happy.

It can be overstated, but until you live with someone, it's hard to get a grasp on how much you can tolerate them.
It only takes me about 3-5 nights to determine how much I loathe each one...

Shouldn't be having a kid at 18-21. That's idiotic. Push her down some stairs and save the two of them years of frustration.

I think everyone is missing that they're mormon.

Mormons might be kinda crazy, but they know how to do families.

Oh trust me we can be. At least this one. I haven't been "active" for the past year this month. It's just bull shit and religion is there for those who need a crutch to live a good life. Just my opinion so don't hate ;3

So being Mormon are your parents more upset about how old they are or the fact that they were having premarital sex?

Religion exists to remind you that Jesus spelled backwards sounds like sausage. Likewise, Allah spelled backwards sounds like challah. Both of these are delicious (especially together) so clearly religion is a good thing.

Mormons know how to do families? CLEARLY you've never been to Utah, the capital of their cul...religion. They draw people in with their "Family Values", but by no means do anything correct raising children. People raised Mormon in UT make people raised Christian in the South by rednecks look educated.

I've been all over, and I will state without a doubt that Mormon teachings are worse with their "snowflake" child-raising philosophy than parents that mostly neglect their child. One of them stands a chance in the real world, the other can't leave a 20 mile-radius of their 'family'.

Everyone is declaring that he's going to split, that their relationship will fail, they won't raise the kid together, etc. etc.

Like I said, while Mormons may be kinda crazy, they don't tend to fall into the same shitty child rearing formulas that other Americans do.

Still raised in the household, and seems to have a very positive perspective on this development.

I'd say for their ages and income/education levels, he stands a much better chance than most.

I looked and looked for the image of the teddy bear that says "I'll pay half for the a-bear-tion" from that stroker and hoop episode but I had no success
