I love playing classic games on my handhelds. It just feels right. I need a new memory stick for FFVII and FFVIII, but FFIX is likely my least favorite Final Fantasy that I finished. I just didn't get the same drive to beat the game into the ground.

Fingers crossed for Suikoden II though. I'd buy that for $6. Sign me up right now.

Can you play PS1 Classics on a CFW PSP? My 1000 has CFW but I haven't touched my 3000's firmware (hell, I'm on the fence of changing it on both ends)

You can play all ps1 games on the PSP with CFW, you just need to find an eboot version of the game and put it in the folder. Work flawlessly.

Take a look at the "PSX Eboot Section".

I have 7 and tactics on my PSP both downloaded from PSN, my 2gb card and 4gb card are both essentially full. Going to need a brand new card for this one, as the original game was 4 disc's and id expect it to be in the 1.8-2.2 GB range, no?

It's a shame they couldn't rework the product to be a single disc in the sense that there's no dupe data. Would be half the file-size if so.
(Using virtual directories or something like that that Disc 2/3/4 would otherwise look for that's already on a prior disc)

Following a couple of weeks of teasing via Twitter, Square Enix confirmed a PSN download release for Final Fantasy IX today.

Similar to all the teases, the announcement came via the Square Enix Members Twitter account , which posted this video at midday:

The six second clip shows Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada confirming that the game is on the way.

Pricing and release details will presumably follow through a more official announcement.
not like we didn't know it was coming, but official confirmation is good

Wondering one little thing about these PSN FF's. Do they come with a 16:9 option? I got the old PSX FF's so I never actually considered buying them from PSN, but if it has 16:9 I might consider it, plus the added bonus of being able to play it on my PSP. And if it doesn't have 16:9 would it mean it has failga black bars on the PSP too? :/

Don't think the PSX versions had a 16:9 option anyway, I'm not sure, been too long lol.

The PSP is very good at playing PS1 games, it has a ton of zooming/stretching options, you can either play it in 4:3 with the bars or you can zoom in but lose some picture. I use the widescreen option and it scales it, I don't notice the stretch really.

Does it do that "panoramic" stretch thing where it just additively stretches the sides?

    Nope.

Last that I can recall via fw5.00 (my PSP been dead for months), there were four zoom modes. Original (which looks bloody tiny), zoom w/ aspect (basically, bars on side of display, this is my preference), full stretch (forces it to fit PSP's display), and another wide-zoom that crops a portion of the top/bottom of the game's graphics to main aspect ratio better.

What I don't understand is why the whole PS1 line up hasn't been released on PSN or at least the greatest hits line up. It's mind boggling, do these companies not like basically free money?

Same reason Nintendo takes over three years to finally start releasing the kind of crap people have been asking for on Wii's Virtual Console. You save them for times of drought of hit titles.

Granted though, I could do with a minimum 3 new PSX releases per week of preferably something worthwhile. Been so many PSX titles I don't give a shit about turning up lately.

    bump for a question...

I've never played FFIX, but I want to, especially with the ability to bring it to the PSN.

However, I only own a PSP. Will I miss out on anything by not having access to the R-analog stick and the L2+R2 buttons?

Nope, I've played it all the way through on my cfw psp. No issues with the lack of the additional buttons.

I would love this, PE2 more than 1, but I played PE2 first.
