Is a race according to my friend's roommate...
those are just island beaners
I'm glad I don't work for the US census I can only imagine the things people put on there.
Ethnicity? Culture? idk, ask Kuya.
I'm half puerto rican and I just say I'm black for the most part.
well what happened is is there is a question asking "are you hispanic?" and if you put yes you're supposed to put what country of origin.
The next question asks "what race are you?" and there is a disclaimer that "hispanic isn't a race according to the US census". I guess the previous question has been added recently for federal funding purposes but the latter is an old question and they refuse to add hispanic as an option.
So he check marked "other" and listed his race as Puerto Rican.
I should put "Connecticut" for my race.
they're not real. neither is kuya. i am starting a campaign to shoot them into space to fuel the sun.
the sun is dying.
I'm just glad republicans weren't in office for this census, I imagine the race checkbox would have been "real american" "west/east coast elitist" and "job stealer".
You dumb fucking skank, let's ignore that puerto rico is its own nation (granted that should be nationality but in the case of a census your nationality is by default american) and instead try to make it equivalent to a state.
The reason why they ask is because hispanics come in all varieties. Even half black people have black features. In my case I had to put down that i'm black and hispanic. Since they wont let you fucking just make a general "I'm hispanic" answer for race, you're forced to specify.

* Other race (write in race)
that's how it was in 2000, but they didn't keep it that way. Either way you were forced to specify origin when you described yourself as hispanic. Yes I know you're going to harp on the "race" semantic instead of understanding the question's intent.
i like puerto ricans
Read all of it, gave you context regarding it from a hispanic POV and a census employee POV. The last census's questions regarding being of hispanic origin were not specific enough as there are FAR more hispanics than mexicans, cubans, and puerto ricans. You're gonna sit there and harp on a single fucking word when your hypocritical dumb fucking ass once tried to call "irregardless" slang.

it costs less to print "race" on a however million fucking forms when general race and a hispanic bloodline is already fucking established than "hispanic country of ancestry", shut your fucking face.
I'm not repeating myself, I covered all of your potential bullshit responses and used specific words just to cut your legs out from under you.
Okay I lied, I am repeating myself
shut your fucking face
