Everything really depends on your goals. Are you a completionist? Are you a competitive number-cruncher? Are you a casual player who stops to admire the view constantly?

I started from scratch a year ago and played for about five months until Aion came out. I had a friend who helped me out a lot with some missions, quests, and gear, but other than that, I largely PUG'd things I needed to get done and formed my own groups (or statics if necessary). By the end of my tenure, I had finished Zilart and CoP, and geared and merited two jobs to a competent degree. Anyone with the right mindset and support from friends can accomplish a lot in a very short period of time, thanks to some streamlining on Square-Enix's part.

You'll definitely be hard-pressed to run out of things to do.

I wouldn't. I think he would want to get started now, so that he is ready for when the major adjustments come online.

If you played this game before you should know the answer to all those questions.

Best way to go about it is to go back to your server and hope your friends help you with all that stuff.

Now would be around the best time to come back since people are leveling sj which will make it much easier to get parties.

I cant stress this enough. People look for instant gratification from crafting, work your way up and find your niche and you will be fine.

Also, I was going to go with the obligatory "Any server but Pandy" but SE fixed that little problem for us all, so you should be good.

what do you mean? The job that levels the fastest, most fun, or most end game utility?

No, he should start now, so that he can get his preferred 1-3 lvl 75 jobs ready w/ lvl 49 sub-jobs out of the way, and spells, minor gear ups, etc, etc.

Shooting himself in the foot if he waits like that.

Roll RDM on Ifrit :D Great to solo with, can make money soloing, gets fast merit invites, can solo missions and whatnot, doesn't have much for expenses except maybe food, Simple subjobs to get(WHM/BLM) and everyone needs a RDM. I can help you out a bit if you wanna roll on my server. If RDM isn't your forte then find out what it but I still suggest going with a caster job rather then a melee.

Without a niche, don't expect alot of return, hard to find a an item which every crafter hasn't flooded the market with. Crafting is good if you wanna make some extra money but if your a serious crafter you need to spend alot of money in hopes of getting larger returns. The crafting market's been dead on my last 2 servers for the last 2-3 years. The only thing it's good for is if your to lazy to farm and want to make a few k on really quick.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly, but I love to craft and that was probably 90% of my income on both Pandemonium and Bismarck. I have 100 Gold on my main and my mules have Alchemy and Cloth leveled, all im saying is that if you are patient and don't be a dumb ass with it then you can get yours. If you're all about spamming the AH with your trash and trying to hit a double whammy on one synth then you're destined to fail from the get go.

Sure its not as profitable as it was back in 04-06, but I mean if you can adapt with the times and can step away from a particular synth you see as your bread and butter and can concede the fact that its time to move on, then there is a place for you. I didn't quit per se, I simply stopped playing about 6 mos ago and up until then I was doing great with my Gold and other synths, then again I'm not a one trick pony.

I had no problem but if he is serious about making gil then I suspect that he shouldn't either. Just be smart about it for goodness sake and you'll be fine.

I would never tell anyone to level RDM as their first 75. You'll be dead last on every list ever for gear because every motherfucker to ever breathe has RDM, and honestly I don't think RDM alone is enough to get you into many/any reputable linkshells at this point in the game. I'd say go BRD. It's equally (or more, depending on how you play each) inexpensive, there's usually not a ton of competition for the good rare/ex pieces, it's useful in damn near every situation from missions to HNM to parties, levels fast and merits faster, and on its own can probably get you into any type of group you'd want. It's also a lot more active than RDM in many/most party situations, which is what you'll be facing a lot of up front since you're starting over.

As for server, close your eyes and throw a dart or something. None of it's going to make any kind of discernible difference, and if you don't like where you end up, you can always switch servers.

Making money will come down to what you can stand to do, to be honest. Crafting can be expensive as fuck, tedious, and boring. Fishing can be tedious and boring. Farming can be tedious and boring.

I'm not telling him to do it, I'm just saying what I'm doing. Then again I already have 75 jobs and my main reason for not going back now is that everything is still the same; I want new shit to do if I'm gonna start playing again - so I guess it's just a different situation.

I'm thinking about coming back to the game too, nothing left to do on WoW once you take down LK. my old account is pretty much out of the question so I'd have to start fresh. My old server was Bahamut but i never really liked it there.

Any one still out there still doing the low game that I might tag along with, or know of a LS on your home server that wouldn't mind taking in a refugee. :3 Erf... If I think about Level break and AF alone i think i'll cry.

"Low game" (I like that term by the way) is a lot different if you haven't played it in a while. While XP parties are still the best way to get XP there are a lot of solo opportunities for XP like FoV, and as you gain levels Campaign. For XP parties there is now level sync which is just a god send that should have been in the game since launch. Not only does level sync let you group together with many different levels of players, but you can also use it to stay at good camps, sync around levels with good JA's or equipment choices or just pick any level from the people in the party.

Limit breaks are a lot easier now because the drop rates have increased. Limit breaks and AF can almost all be soloed or duoed.

Mmmm... my last memory's were a glorious PLD and DNC duo with shadowhusky, when i think WoTG just came out. The 2man was sometimes easy or too tough, and finding a good spot to level at was always a problem. Hopefully much easier now from the way you talk, the hardest part will be the social aspect.
