Getting my wisdom teeth out was probably the worst experience ever.

After I got them out I never really had that bad of bleeding, maybe the day of the surgery, it stopped shortly after. You need to make sure you are cleaning (salt water or Biotene) the wounds so they heal over and stop bleeding. If you are having a lot of pain, lay on an ice pack or something on your face.

Biting down harder (or at least securing the gauze/bags) will help with the pressure, and I think it's supposed to help stimulate salivation, or something like that.

Eat something. Soup in a straw as someone suggested is just fine and you can use the straw to avoid the sockets and any associated pain. You do not want to either dehydrate or starve yourself right now.

And get used to preparing saline for yourself, because once you start eating solid foods again, you'll need to make sure you're diligently cleaning out the sockets from the...material...that will inevitably accumulate in them.
I'm sure it varies from doctor to doctor, however I was told not to use a straw when eating or risk sucking out the blood clot (Dry socket~!).

Did anyone get to keep theirs after the surgery?

I wanted to but they said I couldn't, thought that was bull. Didn't even get to see them.

Bet the nurses fence them to the tooth fairy...

    Bitches.

Saline is also a makeshift antiseptic. If you weren't prescribed antibiotics it's a good idea to use salt water or mouth wash religiously (though alcohol is going to hurt like a motherfucker), since there's a risk of blood infection. My brother had that happen to him actually. If you feel drowsy or disoriented, get your ass to a hospital since if you pass out with a blood infection, septic shock will kill you.

Also, all four of my wisdom teeth came in fine. Can never have too many molars.

I had mine pulled at 17 so they were not impacted. I had some bleeding, but nothing the gauze couldn't handle, and only for the first 1 1/2 days. I had light pain, so the meds were nice but not necessary.

But yeah, don't use straws or smoke. Once you are eating soup and then real food again make sure to use a water pick or similar to clean the area and dislodge any stuck food. I didnt have this problem, but my cousin got an infection after the fact from food that wasnt washed out. Super nasty ><!

I didn't eat for two days because of the pain, and had to throw away my pillow the day after my extraction because I woke up in a pool of blood. The bastard dentist didn't give me anything for pain, he told me to take ibuprofen over-the-counter.

    1. That amount of bleeding is possibly abnormal depending on how they extracted the teeth, I'd call the office if it doesn't improve today.
    2. Ibuprofen is a blood thinner. aka My dentist was a moron. Probably why he is no longer practicing.

When mine were pulled, they had to cut into my gums to get to them, use a chisel looking device to break up the two wisdom teeth(the bone breaking sound was unique to say the least), pull the remaining shards out, and then stitch me back up.

Only my lips hurt from where the dentist used it as leverage and the bleeding stopped after a few hours. I had pizza for dinner that same night. What will be especially annoying is when the stitches start to break down and hang in your mouth. It took me forever to get them pulled out. Now that I think about it, I don't think I got any meds other then Tylenol either, not that I had any residual pain.

I got extremely, extremely sick, maybe the most sick I've ever been after I got my wisdom teeth out because i was apparently allergic to the anesthesic or just had some sort of horrible reaction to it, I threw up for a week and a half and could not eat anything, ended up in the hospital on tubes and even then I kept puking a lot and felt completely out of commission, finally someone gave me a tiny white pill and I got bettr, however I do not know if it was the pill or just time.

They gave me some retarded extra strength tylenol too, I was pissed because some places will give you awesome drugs

They don't let you keep them for a reason, you know. Some states have biohazard laws/regulations for disposal.

Warm Saline (salt water) and keep some pressure ont those gauzes, dont rush to swap them out.

I've had two that came out nicely and one that got pulled, got lucky that one wasn't impacted, but I'll be going under the knife for that 4th soon

And like everyone's said by now... if you're really that concerned, call the doc.

On this note, when i hade mine pulled it was the first time i was under general anthesia. (local being when they numb a section, such as your hand or foot or something)

    shit was bad ass....

"o.k. breath this in deeply and count to 50"

    "1...2............................................ ....................................."

About 20 minutes later, i actually regain awarness in the middle of the surgery, I open my eyes and make eye contact with the doctor and the nurse, and i'm not in discomfort but i vaguely see the doctor pull back and adjust something and BAM out again. I come too like 20 minutes later with a bunch of gauze and a bottle of percocets. Extra strength tylenol is bullshit, should have demanded something a bit stronger. hell call his ass back tomorow and say that their not doing anything (cause mine hurt 100% more the next day, which wasn't to say alot, but it was sorta discomforting)

Also get something in your stomach man. shit ain't good to not eat anything.

I got to keep mine! They were rotting in my mouth by the time I got em out and they broke one of em to get it out. I used to break pieces of one of the most rotten one off with my tongue before they took em out.

I took these pictures a few hours after I had them out. I was still pretty drugged at that point so I dunno what I was thinking.

I still have them in a little Ziploc bag in my jewelry box. They're all dried out and brown now. Browner.

Also, I got all four out at once when I was 30 years old. The holes bled like a bitch for a couple of days and then they stopped after a while. I had a horrible time trying to keep myself from tonguing the holes.

I had mine yanked just as they were coming in so I imagine they were a bit prettier.

The more wisdom teeth stories I hear the more I appreciate the guy that pulled mine.

They put me under completely for the surgery (anesthesiologist and everything). I had very minor bleeding afterward, not much pain, decent pain meds. He used sutures that naturally disintegrate over time so there was no grief of pulling them out. Had the surgery done on a Friday, was back in school that Monday (was in high school at the time).

The only awkward moment out of the whole experience was when they brought me to another room to come off the anesthesia after the operation. Apparently I started to sleepwalk around the office, the nurses had to grab me and lead me back to the chair.

I broke my jaw completely through in 2 places (back left, front right) so one side was just kinda hanging there. They took my wisdom teeth out then.

I had my shit wired shut for 6 weeks, had to eat through straws, couldn't clean the inside worth a shit, blah blah blah. The wisdom teeth were definitely the worst part of it all.

After I got it unwired I still had dry sockets, so they took what basically amounted to little strips of rubber bands, coated in clove oil, and stuck them in the holes. Had to get that fixed up every few days.

    Fun stuff.

boys in the US don't keep their foreskin, it is sold to companies involved with medical dermal grafting. Circumcision is a fucking billion dollar industry in this country.
