Customization alone already makes FFXIV far past FFXI.

She was making most of the "sexier" choices and the guy was just repeating the decisions in his own translated way.

Anyone notice when picking between Seekers of the Sun/Moon that there is a female icon next to each. What would be the point of that if males were not an option.

Fuzzy memory says the same thing appears in XI for Mithra character creation not sure.

Gotta say the UI on that character creator is pretty awesome. It looks extremely clean and yet manages to get across more or less everything you need to know.



It's not an issue at all for the programmers, the code would be able to handle it without a problem; it's just a matter of not having enough artist manpower to create, texture, rig and animate that many unique models, at that level of detail.

I said the server load would be too much due to every players machine having to download all of the random unique designs. The "artist manpower" also doesn't make much sense, as if you do it like Demon's Souls or Oblivion, you have a system in place and the player adjusts all of the details

All we're "downloading" (meaning receiving) are just bytes of data sent from the servers. Our machines are doing the grunt of the work, having to process then render them.

Majority of the server load comes from the amount of connections they have to deal with.

In the official XIV media thread here, some one mentioned that the right monitor in the Mission Impossible video, it has a ^uu^ kinda shape made out of desktop icons. I checked and saw it, I guess it is a Mithra face?
Edit, it is about at 0:36 on the 720P version. I also wonder if they took the vid down the other night to play along with the stealing info/theme.

If you've ever done video guides/Let's Plays/etc on youtube like many do (including me >.>) you'd realize it's just failtube's auto flagging with some companies, especially in regards to unreleased/prerelease content. They likely filed a counterclaim to get it back up though. So it's not with the theme most likely, since if you get strikes on your account you'll lose it

Hmm.

There were 10 phases to the character creation, but it skipped the one between choosing name and the starting city. I wonder what it's for.

I'd guess it was the server selection but they don't have that made yet.

I like the customization. It is more than what Final Fantasy XI offered by not too over the top like Aion's character customization. Really don't want to see grotesque characters running around after all. I am highly pleased with this customization and cannot wait until the end of the year like everyone else.

Also, two things I noticed:

'Final Fantasy XIV Beta Version' in the window name. Perhaps it's the same window name for Alpha, also they said 'Beta' but there was discussion that it's the same Alpha/Beta the way they keep messing it up. Maybe Closed Beta officially starts Tuesday?

Also, the operating system is Windows XP. Just kind of happy about that. Recently went back to XP for speed and I use a lot of older emulators and stuff that run a lot better on XP. Among other features and programs I use.

Can't wait for Beta/Retail :D Hopefully I get picked to be a PS3 Beta Tester.

Update: So it actually IS the Beta Version client they are using and not the Alpha.... that's good news!

I'm pretty sure there will be tons more hair options upon release.. or at least that's what I'm telling myself. I'm with most of you not liking all of the crazy customization that allows others to make ridiculous looking characters, but the choices at this point are still a little underwhelming.

I'm going to assume that this is a woosh - but there have been multiple games in past years with barbers. As well as multiple games that either had extra 'paid' hair styles/colors or free ones added in after release.
