Impressive stuff. With the announcement of some of the changes coming in Phase 3, I feel like things are really starting to come together now. I wonder how SE finds their talent, because they seem to be able to find some of the best.

Well while they have the best artists under their sleeve not everyone in the team is as talented. I guess it's just a different mindset compared to West which seems to put emphasis on technical superiority over artistic beauty.

    Sadly nope.

It's a Peiste, it was a monster from FFXI with the WoG expansion.

yeah , I saw a airship... looking thing fly very close overhead, it has those wing like things although it had a smaller... rounder shape and more of a spaceship look then the ffxi airships we know of.

also speaking of the detail the video mentions, they put alot into the mobs, playing at max settings looking at scale/slimey type mobs, the reflections of the area/character and the various lights and scenery off the walls n stuff in some area's very well done.

    looking forward to phase 3!

I need to buy another monitor so I can keep FFXIV open @ 1920x1200 on one screen and use the other to troll forums. <3

Wonderful graphics, as expected, but I was kinda put off by their assumption that pretty graphics = immersion in a game. I'd rate interactivity with the environment as more important to a feeling of immersion than things looking pretty, but you getting stuck on invisible walls and 2-inch changes in terrain.

I still look at the game (and the FF series as a whole, especially their online versions) as a painting: beautiful, stunning, and jaw-dropping to look at, but don't you dare touch the painting! Maintain your distance and simply observe from a distance. I feel like I'm observing more than participating, but many games with true motion-capture technology feel that way.

Even moreso than interaction with the environment, I'd rate interaction with the players, rather than NPC's in the world the most immersive factor :D.

You'll get no disagreement with me on that, and that's why the more emotes, actions and voice-ranges a player can engage in (and yes, that includes being able to sit on a stool/bench/chair somewhere in town, dammit), the better for the game's immersion.

I get shin splints just watching everyone stand around like statues.

Those can compliment player interaction nicely, but what is most important is that the players are encouraged to interact with each other through game mechanics and features. Not simply from an RP standpoint.

    That is the 'FF immersion'.

I dunno if that's the "FF immersion"; its just immersion through needing others. You needed a party in FFXI to do most everything, and you needed others for items. In FFXIV, you need others presumably for the big fights, and you especially need others for your gear.

Its a bit of "forced" immersion, but its not a bad thing. Every MMO should require a bit of forced immersion, and it grows on you eventually anyway. You learn to rely on the people that you were initially forced to group with. Its not a bad thing at all, but I still don't feel like it's 100% responsible for pulling you into some world. Me being able to leave my mark on that world does more for my own personal sense of interaction than who I band up with, but that's just me.

Yes, truly, if we were to aim for perfect 'convenience' in our MMO' we should rather be playing something like Diablo/PSO/Monster Hunter, where there are very few inconveniences like travel times and what not. We are "forced" to deal with inconveniences in every MMO, but if such inconveniences didn't exist, I don't think it would even be an MMO anymore.

Now the perception of "leaving a mark on the world" could be interpreted in various ways- in a way that you can affect the game world itself, or in a way that you help a new person out on the start of his journey. Or figuring out new ways to do things, that felt like an impossible feat before. Also "Being remembered" by your mates and the people you've met.

The latter examples are more abstract, but not inferior in my opinion.

yeah when I hit Lv 20ish to do Lv30 guildleve's I got a group with a bunch of Jp and we did all the guildleve's traded the gear we got from it to deck each other out quick. No one ever got a head piece though from lv30 ;/

Only thing I had thats not lv30 was like boots/head piece, would of been around 475HP if those 2 items were upgraded at lv23

considering the size of his other muscles, titan must have a really tiny dick.

the music for the vid was also leaked, yes.. track 23.

and the 2nd mob.. is a peiste. Its closest to the FFXI's Peiste model, but is also related to the monster known across the series as the Basilisk.
