Skipped 4 notices for jury duty.

None of that shit works in NYC. They don't play games and actually have investigators as part of the court who interview you if you claim to not be able to, or are against the mechanics of jury duty. I was there for three days and they paid me 75 dollars a day to sit around for a few hours watching cnn and texting on my phone. Everyone has to do and everyone should go at least once.

Clearly you've never been on a jury in Maryland/Indiana since jurors are required to know about nullification there.

True to an extent I supposed. You essentially just have to prove whatever it is that you claim prevents you or would prevent you from serving. So makes sense if you can portray yourself as a jury who would be a detriment, but it doesn't always work in some places.

In the event that I do get picked, how obligated are you to go - if the day they set simply doesn't work for you.

i.e. - if I'm going to be on vacation in Europe from June 22nd to July 14th, and I get a notice on June 19th telling me to be in court on July 7th - I can get out of it, right?

What about days you simply can NOT take off from work, dentist appointments, birthdays and any other legitimate excuse I can think of?

I'm not trying to get out of it - I just wanna know how bad jury duty can fuck over your plans...

Based on what I'm reading in this topic, you can simply mail them back a middle finger and skip jury duty all together and you still wont get in trouble unless you're in NYC.

And as far as the law goes in regards to jury duty no work excuse will ever go through. You employer is legally forced to give you time off to serve, regardless of what "needs" to be done that day. If you travel for work, and are out of the state.... that's another story.

The reason I skip out on this crap is precisely b/c I'm a greedy asshole and loose way to much money at work to drive an hour+ each way to sit in a fucking courthouse all day.

There's enough poor idiots who will take $75/day and show up like they should for them to worry about me lol.

typically on the back of the card there's an option to check for a 1 time exception, but you have to pick a date at least 6 months ahead that you will be available on. They will typically work with you when you already have something planned like that.

No one in their right mind would willingly remain in Maryland, Indiana, or Illinois... so that is their fault. It is something I was not aware of though.

I got picked maybe 10 years ago to go to Manchester Crown Court. I wasted a few days there reading Good Omens, SFX and other shit. I went for selection I guess with a bunch of other people but didn't get picked. All in all, a big 'ol waste of time.

Well, there is a hardship exemption if your job doesn't pay for time off due to jury duty and you're so broke that you can't afford to not work that day.
