JPs have always been nice to me, the only dicks were the elite guilds, but so were the NA elite guilds. I hate playing on NA time just because NAs have a greater ability to be douche bags.

I never had problems with Japanese Players, except one or other noob moron (they are everywhere). I saw NA only PT comments, as well JP, but you know what? I invited them anyway, and they mostly accepted the pt invite.
Giving the fact my second language is English (I'm from Portugal), i agree from what has been said on this thread (i think) that europeans tend to know more languages than let's say Americans (even tho that is changing) from my experience. I love the fact that within all the years i played FFXI on Fairy, i got to know people from all over the world, from USA, JP, Korea, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil and so on.
I've tried some f2p MMO's with regional servers and i hate it, so i'm glad that SE is keeping their mindset in International Servers.
Regarding JP's on my server, my ls at early times (for NA) we sometimes allied with the only JP HNMLS there somewhat regularly, and we had a cordial relantionship with them.
No, you're missing the point and overblowing simple statements. I said if given the option I would play on (at least) a primarily English speaking server based on my experience with JP players. The situations people have had with others, and mine(and other people who have had the same issues in this very same thread) are just two sides of the same coin. Calling it a "4-5 year old problem that just doesn't happen anymore" is an overgeneralization; which is amusing because that is the exact same thing you're accusing me of. The problem is still very prevalent on Phoenix(the server I am from), and was on Remora when I left it(which has been a while I admit). I have said many times I understand this is not the case for everyone.
I don't understand where you're getting I'm whining by saying I would rather avoid going into the same situation (POSSIBLY) if given a choice. I know we aren't because they've already stated there are going to be global servers, so that is pretty much the end of the discussion. I am not so arrogant to think just because I want something, everyone does.
I think it's less playing favorite and more of the fact that the content developers are in fact, Japanese, and write it in Japanese, which can be instantly uploaded to the Japanese site. They could be speedier about the translations, but I can sympathize with having to jump through hoops when dealing with giant corporations to get even the smallest thing approved. In my opinion, if they want global servers, they should first upgrade themselves to updating the web site for each language at the same time...instead of playing favorites.
As to NA servers, jesus christ, no.
NA and Europeans are no less xenophobic than JP ever were, in my experience. And I'd rather play with my buddies from Japan and Germany than not.
Sometimes I like to wake up at the middle of the night to play, having international servers serves my PT needs when all the sane people are asleep.
This.
I played at NA release and I've never had a JP help me, in fact I was the one helping them up the mountain in Attowha. All the JP have ever done is MPK us all at Dunes, Jungle, and CN over and over. Back then, and even now, the server is segregated. There is no point to have all in 1 server, no one ever teams up. I've seen 1 nice JP, and maybe 2 or 3 in a merit party. But over the years there has been no benefit to being on the same server. They never join auto-trans shouts, and still shout in full JP text.
They don't want your help and they won't help you.
They should have optional regional servers. You pick the region, not forced, all-in-one included in that option. Then have all cross-server instances. Because are you really joining that JP shell? Nope. Unless you are the small % who speak a small amount and want to torture yourself joining JP because NA/EU disown your gimp ass.
Oh boy, exaggerated generalizations, my favorite thing.
Heartbreaking story.
Some of the nicest people I met in FFXI were Japanese. Always seemed to be the NA LSs who caused the problems with botting, HNM stealing and MPKing. Of course Japanese players would retaliate the same which was fair enough.
Maybe we can have NA servers while the rest of us play together.![]()
I wouldn't play XIV if they made the servers regional. I know we're having a discussion here about NA v JP players predominantly and that in itself annoys the crap out of me...
I'm an EU player. I'm from the UK and I have Norwegian, Swedish, German, Austrian, Saudi, Singapore, French and other friends as well as a range of Canadian and North American buddies from over the pond.
I absolutely love the mix and one thing that would encourage me to play XIV is to keep the international servers. I agree they made a mistake with XI in releasing it in stages. The EU didn't get access until CoP release, not sure about the NA peeps but I don't think there was much in it.
I've met and talked to, quested/xp'd with a bunch of peeps I would never have met in any other way and really enjoyed it. My experience of japanese players is that they are fairly reserved whenever you start with them, but they relax and loosen up if things seem ok. I've even gotten into stupid auto translate jokes with them and ended up with some friends out of it.
I started a linkshell and we attracted a lot of players who are available in EU primetime. We're a mixed bunch and I like it a lot. I have one guy from Alaska who just happens to be around when we are. I've learnt a ton about the US and Canada, as well as some of the far and middle east.
I think I would enjoy starting afresh with every one else at the same point. If you want to stick to your own language groups, I have no issue with that but I really enjoy the international culture and as long as I could find enough people to do things with in my play time, I'd prefer international servers.
