Because their beliefs have nothing to do with their behavior and there isnt a large anti-gay movement in America from the christian conservatives right?
So you agree there are Christians that don't agree with "this" particular group?
The church brings the kids to these protests and get them to hold signs as well so obviously anything that is hurled at the group is thrown at the kids too. The adults from westboro then complain that the evil people who don't like the protest are putting their kids' safety at risk and they fear for their children's well being.
I don't know if this is the same group of people, but when I lived in AL there was a school bus that fell off a bridge or some shit and killed two little black girls. Then these church people came in from out of state protesting at their funerals saying God killed them cuz America likes gays.
Sounds like the same church unless there's more than one group of crazy assholes protesting funerals.
You're confusing the statement:
"Christianity leads to a belief system that includes bigotry resulting in large anti-gay movements among its followers and in extreme cases total hate crimes like we see in this thread"
with
"All christians are bigots who hate gays".
We are stating the first, not the latter.
Attack one and you attack the collective. "We are one and many in belief... *boop!*"
What are christians? The fucking borg? lol
This, dear god, this! I tried to have an intelligent conversation with my brother-in-law about why he thought the way he did (southerner, mildly racist, dislikes obama, etc.) and it ended in him admitting that his ideas were jaded, and he had absolutely no grounds for his beliefs. I have to give credit where credit is due though, because he openly had the conversation with me and I didn't push him into itOh and turns out he does like Obama, lol
I'm a Christian.
1) I don't hate homosexuals.
2) I don't claim to know or understand what makes a homosexual a homosexual.
3) I do know it isn't biologically logical, and when you look at the parts involved, it just doesn't make sense - but... as I said in #2, I just wouldn't know.
4) But if a gay guy grabs my ass and I punch him in the face, is it a hate crime?
Considering a lunatic managed to walk into a church and blow a man's brains out for abortions, surely another one will end up walking into the Westboro church and do the same. It will be a tragedy, of course. And it'll be horrible when so many people laugh and cheer at innocent, church-going crusaders eating a healthy 9mm breakfast. You shouldn't laugh at murder, after all.
Homosexuality is God's population control. Everyone should have learned this in Sunday school.
To be fair, if they're not attempting or inciting violence or actually interrupting the ceremony in any way, then they're not actually comitting any crimes. Offending people and/or being a douchebag isn't against the law.
What religious rights are they infringing? That would only really be valid if what they were doing was somehow interrupting the funeral or preventing it from happening.they are infringing on his religious rights too.
Right Kaelan, however having a funeral protested does interupt the ceremony. The concept of a funeral is reverance and rememberance, both of which you degrade by having these protestors. Obviously it effected the funeral attendees and obviously it caused personal grief to the family (and yes emotional assault is assault in some cases).
Im all for free speech (hell I dont even have a problem with flag burning, because I the people that do such stupid things only display how free of a country they live in). However, this clearly crosses the lines into invasion of privacy and assault on these people's rights to bury their loved ones (who died serving our country) in peace.
